urgent help needed

When you say running for an hour, was that sat ticking over for an hour? as this wouldn't heat the engine.
Viscus fans seem to turn all the time and only really kicks in when engine very hot like on a summers day.
I'm not aware of being able to feel running water through hoses but one or both will get warm when engine starts warming up.

Diesel engines in general don't warm up very well when on tick over, they need to work to produce heat. Especially big diesels like these.
