Just been to a local tyre house to get my tyres checked, it's an independent not a large chain. I wanted my rear tyres checking out as they feel a little close to the depth indicator to me, they are Bridgestone Duellers. The indicator is marked by a small arrow on the sidewall and can clearly be seen and felt in the tread.
First of all junior monkey got his tool out  to test the depth, he first measured 6mm 8O so I pointed outed the indicator which measured 3mm and 4mm on the other side. I asked if someone else could check too so older monkey came out and got the same and walked away mumbling something quite probably telling me I had no father but who cares  .

What do other people think of these road tyres and the depth and am I gonna get stuck when we do North Yorkshire, never mind off road is it about time they were changed anyway :?:

BTW the fronts got changed 2 years ago to Toyo Open Country AT's

if your not happy with them, or you feel your not getting enough grip... change them
its you thats responsible for your vehicle and the safety of yourself and others

i often change mine before they are due . because the grip in the rain is quite poor even at 4-5mm

but i am funny with tyres at 100 mph you have very little keeping you on the road even with the best tyres

remember its not worth not going home one day

They're the 4x4 tyre experts in our area - be sure to mention the difflock forum as he seems to do special prices for "differs". You'll get an honest opinion and a good deal from Mark - he values his reputation (and it is very good) too much to rip people off.

Hi Jim my AT's have worn down to about 6-7mm but were still giving alot of grip in the snow & as alot of the lanes in the dales have a stoney layer you should have no probs

Sorry didn't realise that, I just know his good name from Diflock and other forums - always assumed they'd have a fitting depot.

Don't appologise HB you were trying to help mate.

Might try and nip up to Ossett this week or I might just say sod it and call this mornings place for some prices anyway (Link Tyres in Mirfield). Thought about pricing up General Grabber AT2's because there seems to of been some positive comments on here about them.

If your getting prices Jim & stopping with the standard 235/75R15 tyres it might be worth getting a price on a set of Falkens to as i've found them long lasting & fantastic on & off road :p think Mundy had a set on his old Jeep & he liked them to
Anyway these are what i'm running

best ive had very late at night early morning.

115 ive done nothing to it.it used to be owned by a sports car garage in chepstow, i think its been played with she needs a service though now and some new fluids clutch dragging. ive not heard one with a whistle like mine from the turbo (except on petrol cars)

i toyed with a good petrol terrano the other week, i would have had him if not for traffic

but i dont play often really i dont want to kill this one

Ive got the 100 and over on occassions and pedal was not to the floor either!!!

Bet they were all off the standard speedo which all seem to be at least 10% out - even with the big 32" tyres on mine still over reads a tad.

so if thats the case everyone should be able to hit 100 then but if your only getting 90 say, that means your only getting 80.

and if we all use the same speedo's and they all run off the same drives they should all be around about the same (albeit out as you say)

basically we are all using the same measuring sticks

but then most cars are slightly over anyway.

Well gauging my speed off my speedo and my sat nav it places my speedo out at about 2mph lower than actual at 60mph!! done at various times and at various locations.

so some one good with numbers can do the maths as to the percentage difference

I have had a 2.7 T2 off the clock, its easy with them, same when the Nav was standard.

Now I have 33s and the speedo is spot on with Sat Nav. I get 100 max but its harder to turn the big wheels.

I don't know what Toyo Open Country AT's are like off road but if there any thing like the Toyo Proxies Ts-1 I had on an old escort they will be great for road holding on the road

I had bfg on my last 4x4 and they are worth every penny. I am lucky, a local dealer to me does them at reasonable price. average price about £110 each but I paid about £90-95 fitted if my memory is correct.
