Been doing a bit of research today and found some interesting info over on nissanpatrol.com.au

A lot of guys over there have weld repaired their crankshaft by welding and re grooving a new keyway, failing that, given the mileage of the engine (160k) I may just weld it all together which I know is a bad idea as it will prevent removal easily again in the future.

Seen this video too on Youtube that I have linked below, not a clue what he's saying and I've not seen a RD28T crankshaft ever so not sure if his is original or not but I'd say not as the crank looks discoloured like it's been welded and that key that is on it doesn't look standard either.

The Patrol will be arriving at the house on Saturday much to the annoyance of the girlfriend :/

Me and my brother will be collecting a car trailer then onwards to the garage where it currently sits about 40 mins away and then back to mine returning the trailer at 12:30 before the guy shuts.

I'm sure there will be a few pics to show especially as my brother gets the opportunity to pull a poorly trol around with his SWB 3 litre Terrano :sly

Excellent, really looking forward to the prevailing thread and pictures.

Well done mate, now a first time Trol owner:clap

Haha you’re right Ive not posted photos of my Truck since end of October when sills were replaced

I’ll make it a mission whilst I’m off work to try and populate my project thread for you:thumbs

Oh man, hope you don’t miss that 3 litre mate. Was a cracking motor that, is your brother liking it?

Early start yesterday leaving my house at 7am to hit the road in my brothers 3 Litre to collect the trailer and then collect the Patrol, drop it home, drop the trailer off before they closed at mid day and then get home for family festivities avoiding a royal telling off :naughty

Here's a picture to get your juices flowing, the superior vehicle having to do all the hard work as usual :augie

Here's some interior pics of it that I took myself, it needs a damn good clean outside but interior is very clean.

Here's a mere snippet of the paperwork that I got with the truck, to say it's been looked after is an understatement.

What do we reckon guys? Salvageable?

Left it on charge overnight and started it this morning, started no problem at all and even managed to take the girlfriend around the new housing estate in it albeit a bit tiring with no power steering, it's a big heavy beast!!!!!

How on earth did that happen in the first place?

Looks a great truck though mate

Apparently it's very common with the 2.8 and very well documented on some of the Aus Patrol forums that I've briefly skimmed through.

Some guys have successfully removed the Crankshaft from the engine, welded and ground it back down smooth and then welded another key onto it. Not sure if I'm brave enough for that though. :nenau

Sorry I can’t work out which pulley it is but how often would it need to be removed? If not often can you just weld the pulley on to the shaft, very bodged but maybe a fix and forget repair. Not sure if heat would damage any oil seals behind.
You may of gone through all this but can’t remember much about threads these days.
