I've got a mech pump for mine. Going to get it Mekened :naughty

What is it you want to use the truck for mate?
I think the om606 conversion is not as easy as it looks and will be bloody expensive.

If its just for dodging about, I'd buy a y60 2.8 engine and put the best bits of both together so you have a mechanical pump, throttle cable, and an intercooler for example.

Or do the Terrano 2.7 engine conversion as you know them inside out?

Or if you really want, do the om606 as you have the skill, it just needs a bit of dollar. As Rob said, DieselPumpuk seem to be the ones that are all over this engine conversion.

Sorry, I don't think that's the best help in the world

The most important thing is the truck looks like a great starting point so the engine can be your oyster.

LS (cough cough) :augie

The 2.7 idea I like the sound of for reliability but in honesty I don't think that it's powerful enough to lug a big old Patrol around :(

As it's a 6 cylinder now I'd like to keep it 6 cylinder whether it be the Merc lump or not.

I'm not going to know anymore until I get the motor home and start to have a play with things what I'm in for, I may be able to limp this one on a little longer with a few cheap repairs.

Failing that it could end up being broken for it's axles and other bits and make a profit that way.

Decisions Decisions

:freak3:

Powerwise the TD27Ti and TD42 are comparable at 123bhp although the Td42 has higher torque.

I remember when I drove your Patrol for the first time and thought how slow I thought that it was compared to my 2.7.

I remember the roasting I got from you when I got back......

IT'S NOT A FECKIN RACING CAR BUDDD

:lol :lol

Just been looking at the DieselPumpUK links and I'm already 1500 deep and I've not even got a replacement engine yet

Told you lol

Maybe the best would be the hybrid y60, y61 2.8 I was talking about. Honestly, they sound amazing modded and it will be original. Best option I think

Well it's not :lol Remember Terrance is around 200kg less kerb weight and also running a turbo and a power chip. I still think your unfamiliarity with getting the best from the Trol's autobox didn't help either ;) and she's a different beast now she's got the shift kit.

EDIT - although thinking about, the Trol is currently way faster than Terrance ;)

Talk to me about this, what do you mean?

All depends what you want but a 2.8 stock is going to be a simple job but basic in power.
The merc for example is as you say 1500 quid for the conversion kit and 750 for a power pump. BUT that gets you into the 400 bhp club.
Personally I'd get the nissan engine options , then sell the big bus and GET A BLOODY SHORTIE innit :naughty

Not that it would be ideal but how easy would it be to switch a 3 Litre in there from a Terrano?

Anyone had any experience with this or am I dangering upon uncharted lands again on my own as usual :lol

It's still a ZD30 but lots of electrimictrickery involved I reckon since it hasn't been a 3.0 from the start. Clutch would also need upgraded and possibly bellhousing and gearbox .

Y60 2.8 seems one of the easiest ones as it's a simple mechanical engine :nenau

Yep, as above. Not worth it

And also exactly what Rob said about the mechanical pump. One of the worst and most annoying things about the 2.8 is the electric throttle, so jerky off road it drove me mad.

You want the mechanical pump, throttle pedal and cable, and the intercooler.
Stick a straight through 3 inch exhaust on it. Tune it with a boost controller, boost gauge and an egt gauge and you have loads of laughs.

Make sure you keep the engine cool and you will be loving it.

I think that settles it then :thumb2 I'm going to try and repair what's in there already and if not I'm going to do exactly that!!!!

I sat down with the guy at work who is selling it on Tuesday afternoon at his desk and as promised he brought me the folder in with all of the invoices, reciepts etc etc for the truck. He's the 2nd owner and both he and the 1st owner had EVERYTHING done when it needed it. 80-90% of the Invoices are Nissan Main Dealer  I did some quick mental arithmetic as he was flipping all the pages and it owed him at least 5-6k in bills for work and he also paid £5800 for it back in 2005.

I'd be a mug to turn this truck down!!!!!

Arranging to fetch it soon

Good luck mate it sounds an interesting truck, no idea how much you’ve got it for but one thing I do know is you are no mug so you’ll of paid the right price. If it does need a new engine take your time as the right one will come along.

Hope you got a fair deal / price in the end.

I think if you can do a repair without breaking the bank that's your best way forward. I guess until the engine has been dismantled you will not know for sure what is needed. I hope it works out for you.

Certainly the history that goes with it must be re-assuring. Look forward to hearing your progress complete with pics !
