like I said earlier,.. I am no expert with windows stuff, will have to wait until I get out of this oh so luxurious Premier inn and get back home.... l8tr

Help some more please:eek:
I've done the hyper terminal thing but cant get anything up on the screen with pins 2 n 3 shorted:doh
Is there another test?
Device manager says its working though:augie

Pete I'm tempted to pop down and have a gander at your roof rails and bucket seats.

I will see how busy I am next week, And if your free. I will also bring my laptop which has a proper serial connector.

Not if I get to you first :naughty
I could pop round your way tomorrow if that's ok cause I'm needing to sort this asap so I can plug in the LPG:naughty

Im not around sunday afternoon, I will be in aber doing some marshalling. Your welcome to meet me there and I will bring the laptop. You can borrow it untill we meet up next as it's my spare. Just let me know by tommorow morning so I can bring it along.

I will be busy from about 10am to 3pm. In aber about 12 to 3pm.

AAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !:doh
And so it goes on
Cheers Fez for the loan of your lap top with serial port:thumbs
Got home set about transfering the consult software from online land to the wife's memory stick:augie Simple? No!
Plugged the stick into my laptop and wah wah wah virus alert, virus alert:eek:
Applied avg and malware secret agents onto the battlefield.................half sorted half insulated:D reboot to complete the task:rolleyes:

It work's or it doesn't :p

Wanna Vitara :lol

Good luck with the ecu saga :(

Nothing ever simple, I am sure you said that to me.

Maybe you should lend me it and I have a play.

I remember at work the tech guy was looking into designing programmers for engine tuning or something or nothing. He had his laptop hooked up to his subaru forrester. I will ask him what he used tommorow.

Cheers Fez, it seems pretty likely now that the consult thing I bought must be a duffer:doh
I've emailed the seller to see what's what:rolleyes:

Hi Guys,
I dont know where you got to in this "not so simple" scenario, but I can tell you that Badger bought the same (I think) interface from ebay and has successfully used it with ECUtalk... maybe worth pinging him for any ideas...

Hello, I took advice from a fellow member (ray) and obtained a consult lead and software, very good advice.
My Maverick has been ok, done many mods and overhauled, but intermittently got loss of power, which was originally cured with a new MAF.
Similar fault occurred during cold spell, if you creep up on an obstical (hill) all is fine, but try powering up it the load creates a misfire and hesitation that gets worse and stays present until you back off and wait for a short time.
I think it is lack of fuel, as it happens the MOT man advised on corroded fuel lines, I changed these for high pressure hose from tank to halfway down chasis, this gave a brilliant increase in power, when I checked the old pipes the corrosion had collapsed the bore to a minimum, so I assumed all would be ok.
Having been off ill of late I have not been out for a long run, today I had to go to Northampton, and when overtaking the problem returned, so on the way back I hooked up the laptop, unfortunately the battery went flat so no log, but when the fault occurred all appeared ok with mass air input, but the “injection timing c/v” went very low, no fault 100% fault down as low as 50%, this then creeps up to 70,80 and finally 100 and then all is ok, I suspect a fuel blockage in either filter or another pipe, but I am having a job understanding the fault code throw up; Code 21: F/INJ TIMG F/B
Any body ever had this one, I don’t at this stage suspect the pump, mini filter eliminated from return banjo, and fuel filer changed only about 5000 miles ago, I am going to change it again, in case I dislodged something with removing pipe.
But where does the code come from I have read the manual, but must be missing something.

On anther not had anew water pump from Milners, have just changed it again as fan was on all the time, new one isn’t as I would hope, it took 50 miles yesterday for it to stop spinning at full speed, but much better than the first, the viscouse unit looks the same as on some toyota’s, they have different amounts of grease inserted depending on worldwide location, I wonder if current batch are from warmer climes?

Ker-ching :D
Got the ecutalk stuff to work after downloading again it worked :thumbs
Came up with Crank position sensor (0 starts) and Maf (8 starts), whatever that means:augie
I've changed the maf and undone it a few times recently, so could that be why it says 8 starts?:nenau
I'll check again n morning and see if the faults are back again.
How do I log the gauges, as it's a bugger to see what they're up to while avoiding old biddies on the pavement:lol

Result... at last:thumb2
The counter after the fault code refers to the number of engine starts since the fault was first logged by the ECU.
ECUtalk logging... the small check boxes next to the sensor selection list have 3 conditions; OFF, ON, LOGGED (white, black, grey). Not easy to spot first time out!
When logging is on it will write the data for the selected sensors to a file, which you can open later with notepad, or maybe better Excel.
The log file will time stamp all of the data so you can figure out what happened when etc...

I suggest you clear the fault codes and then see if anything comes up later.

Thanks for that:thumbs
It maybe then the MAF is also goosed:doh
I'll have to get one of those spanking new ones from donkey land
I'll double click tomorrow and clear codes again.:bow

Thing is, now you can look at the MAF output as seen by the ECU in real time! No messing with DVM's etc.
Should be around <2V at tick over rising to a max of about >4 volts or so at about 3K RPM... If it's wildly different from that it may be goosed, but don't write it without checking.
Switch on the MAF log button and go for a drive then look at the numbers over a coffee/beer/wine etc.
ECU generated fault code are pretty generic, an educated analysis of various sensors etc by MK1 human brain is better than the ECU's guess at what may be wrong. Tis why so many folks get led down the wrong path by a finite fault code!
