This is a proper 'hardcore' technical thread. I don't really understand it, but it is very interesting.

I hope you get it sorted soon though.

I don't thinkyou need to worry about "whipping out the g/box" Those where just generic instruction in the manual... just needed to show you where it is.
I'll check the speedo thing..
The VSS signal goes to the speedo FIRST then onto the ECU... Manual page EC-398.
So could easily be a dodgy connector inside the vehicle.
Yellow wire with blue tracer.
pin 26 on speedo unit to pin 417 on ECU

Hmm, the manual i have shows the VSS going to ECU first then speedo head.

I've found the pages in the manual now and it defo says speedo first :thumbs
Component Description
VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS)
The vehicle speed sensor is installed in the combination meter. It
contains a pulse generator which provides a vehicle speed signal
to the speedometer. The speedometer then sends a signal to the
ECM.
Trouble is I've fitted so many gadgets over last 18 months, the dashboard job could take some time:eek:

Looks like there's a good chance you have upset that connection from Pin26 on the dash unit to the ECU... fingers crossed we might just have it nailed.
But the log file showing ZERO speed is definitely wrong,.. well if you were moving it would be!

I have the Autodata manual, which isnt always 100% right!
That explains the disparity then.... I was getting confused as to how the speedo could work & the ECU speed sense not....
so unless (unlikley) the ECU is having a bad time of it I'd reckon its a simple matter of verifying that the signal on P26 is valid & going to ECU-417.
BTW the consult o/p from the ECU actually shows speed in KmPh.
