After looking at the workshop manual it looks like an absolute ballache!!!!

I'm just toying with the cheaper and easier options of potentially fixing the horrible rattle I've got at low revs on Mav before I go fitting a new axle.

Has anyone ever done this job and if so what kind of price am I looking at for a set of bearings for both sides, rears that is, I've recently done the fronts

Cheers

Milners seems to be the cheapest for the bearings, let me know how it goes as might do mine soon.

No doubt new bearing will improve things, but have you checked if the side steps are rattling? or have you binned them already?

My truck has a policy of so many rattles, there's no point worrying about them!!

I hate hate hate rattles in cars, it's a massive pet hate of mine!!!! No side steps, it's 100% something rear axle related, I'm hoping it could just be 2 wheel bearing foofed but if it turns out to be the diff I'm just going to bin the axle off

I did the half-shaft oil seals recently, and renewed the brake shoes and wheel cylinders etc.

I had originally planned to do the bearings myself as well, but I didn't have the right gear to do it i.e. a press/extractor/or oxy gear, so I bottled it and took the half-shafts when out to a local garage who I dread to say I had to pay to do it.

For the price I paid I could have bought one of those Clark presses from Machine Mart though and done it myself, although I was absolutely paranoid about damaging the fragile, and expensive looking ABS rotor that is also on the shaft.

Here's a picture of my half-shafts once out, cleaned up with back plates and bearings connected...

I'm sure theres a download for either the bearings or seals, have a look and see if that helps you.
