Raising Mav by adjusting Torsion Bar

Hi Guys

I've read a few other posts on this after doing a search of the forum and it sounds like a pretty simple job so I' going to have a crack next week.

Just a few questions;

Does anyone know the page number of the workshop manual that details this?
How much adjustment will the front need to be sitting at the same height as the rear?

back should be 3/4 to 1 inch higher at the back


do a search youll find all the info you need im sure

park on level ground, get a tape measure and measure from bottom of rear wheel rim to top of wheel arch, then get some one to hold the tape measure on bottom of fron wheel rim while u adjust the bars, the adjusting bolts are just after the transfer box give them a good dose of wd40 or plus gas before doing the adjusting

this is what the adjusting bolt looks like

you crack the locking nut at the top and then hold the bottom nut in place and adjust from underneath if that makes sense you can see in next pic the what you have to turn

lefty loosy

righty tighty

Lol, it's what we have at work to stop people viewing certain websites when they should be working lol

So am I right in thinking that I could do this on the drive? I thought this had to be done on a ramp in the air :S

U can do it like I did with out jacking car up think u need either 2 x17mm spanners or 2x 19mm spaners and a good day before doing it spray loads of penetrating oil all over both threads.:thumbs

ahh, yeah, we had that at school, i bypassed it loads of times as i signed in as either a janitor or teacher, was my only way of getting on here!:sly

I'f I'm raising the gap surely it'd be better in the air as all the weight is taken off the wheels then and would be easier to adjust

Just jack up the front a bit then

The oil is there to brake down the rust it really is easy with car on the ground unless u r a large person it is also safer as car can't come down on u when ur under it:thumbs unless said large person gets in the car:lol

Right I don't know if I'm being a complete mong or what but when I was under the car last night looking for leaks from my water pump I couldn't see where I had to make these adjustments.

Just to confirm, these are the adjustment points to raise the front of the car?

Under drivers seat area.

Yes they are. they are almost under the front seats as they have to be set back from the front of the truck.

Just look for the long bars from the front of the truck to the center of the truck and you should find the bolts.

Undo the 2 top ones first as they act as locking nuts. then turn the one under the cross member clock wise. Lift the front up a little with a jack to take some of the tension off as well.

Once completed check the height on both wheel arches sides, they should be about 10mm lower than the rear ones.

How did you get so much thread at the end?? I've not got even half of that!!!!
Are they extended bolts or the standards? I tried to do this today and the nut got rock solid both sides and the car only went up an inch

I think I need to re index my torsion bar as per the other thread in the section

Did you jack it so the front wheels were off the ground ?

And did you loosen the top nut off ?
