2.7 Terrano 2 1998
Problem ... no acceleration
Bear with me ..............
suspected Mass Air Sensor (MAS), as have had this issue before ... Changed MAS but no improvement in performance. ( rash decision !! )
have not got consult reader (awaiting dly) so shorted plug as per workshop 29 instructions.
Found codes only flash if link LEFT CONNECTED.
Also seem unable to DELETE codes ( IGN on / engine not running)
original codes
12 ( MAF sensor signal error)
34 ( injector needle lift signal)
43 (accelerator pedal posn incorrect signal)
I have recently run engine with (old) MAF sensor disconnected & also with Accelerator pedal disconnected..... hence , I think, code 12 & code 43
I ran car ( 1 mile only!) with no air filter (old MAS ) .... still no acceleration
Tried code deletion with paperclip, code 34 remained ( engine ign on, but not fired up)
So code 34 seemed "stuck"
Disconnected battery overnight / shorted L&N / left lightswitch on/pumped brake pedal ...... in attempt to delete codes from ECU overnight
reconnected battery / Ign ON but engine not fired up / Code 34 still there.
Just tested resistance across sensor at Plug connection / IGN OFF / = open circuit / >2000K Ohms
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
About to test MAS as per Workshop 2 download for 12v IGN@ terminal 2 ... & 1 volt @ terminal 5.
Can also check Accelerator pedal for 1 - 5 v & ground ( but I think OK as car will rev if on flat road / also will rev to 4,500 rpm limiter stop)
also commencing fitting new fuel filter and air filter ( both old filters fitted within last 10K miles)
will have to re-bleed fuel lines after fitting so air should not be issue
Banjo filter on diesel pump was also checked approx 6 months ago & no problems seen.
EGR mod not done, but link rod seems to have acceptable movement ( have to do the ball bearing blockage at some point .... but not at moment. )
Car will run ( slowly ! ) up to 70 MPH as long as there are no hills !
have checked hoses for splits & leaks ..... all seem OK
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
QUESTIONS ???
1. is code 34 remaining due to the ECU doing its system check on Ign turn on, and thus logging a code 34 even though engine not fired up ?? ... is this why I cannot "Clear" code ??
2. Does ECU remain in "limp home" mode for may-be 30 miles or so after changing the MAS ?? (car now done 40+ miles)
3. Any other check I can do on No.1 injector / sensor before I commit to £180 quid new part ??

Sorry it's a long one !!!
