after ringing around .... my options so far are ........

kia ceed ...... nil advance payment ( petrol only .... diesel is £195 )

ford focus estate ..... 1.6 petrol ( £95 ) ...... diesel 2ltr (£1150 )

citroen c4 hatchback ( totally useless but good mpg :lol ...... nil advance payment )

astra petrol estate ..... nil advance payment ....... diesel £245

you can but second hand on mobility.. i know i have done it.. get down to nissan as i think you will need a 4 wheel drive if your down the back of queensbury as you can not afford to get stuck or your in the car all night...

buy second hand and swap over your insurance... 7k car no problem on mobility. i got mine nil deposit

good luck all the same briggie as your due a dollop of it

jeez thats not good, least no one got hurt tho, neil's dad get motability, free road tax & says that money gets taken off his benefits every month for insurance, payment for the car itself & any repair (inc tyres, servicing, brakes ect)
deposit & monthly payment can vary depending on what car you get. phone round a few places & check the deals but something with 4wd would prob be best for you with where you live.

neil thinks kia sportage might be nil deposit :thumb2

can't run bio diesel on mobility tho

Bally hell Pete just seen this and your text, you have had some shit luck with motors, I just picked up a 99 TDi but it needs work to get it through the MOT and there are no third row seats, best of luck on your search, Rick

out of the list you put on mate.
use the 200 quid scrap money and put 45 quid to it and go for the diesel astra estate.
or do what they say and get a second hand 4x4
steve

im quite tempted by the citroen berlingo multispace ...... loads of room for my wheelchair , plus its very good on mpg , and all the seats have 3 point belts ......the 1.6 hdi auto does around 50+ mpg and has 115 bhp ..... low floor for loading chair in too ...... bad side is its probably crap in the snow , and advance payment may be prohibitive ( but will check tomorrow )

I had one on holiday. Brilliant motor. Fit snow tyres on it in winter

the only thing that worries me about the astra estate is that my electric wheelchair is very large and heavy ...... would have to be dismantled to put in the back , and then would take up all the load area .

I've seen the berlingos where you can drive the wheelchair in. They've been adapted at the back doors and floor.

just spoke to the garage ........ the car is in stock , but they cant negotiate on the advance payment , so im scraping all I have together and gonna have to save up .

Not a good day for you Pete, glad your all ok though. I know what you mean about up front money, the mobility scheme is a great idea, but often it seems to forget that those needing mobility generally have a large heavy luggage item that won't fit into most car boots!

My neighbour has Muscular Dystrophy and she has no end of problems sorting stuff out because she has a young family of three - the people behind grants/mobility/etc. can't seem to put her into a pigeon hole and therefore fail dismally to provide any useful help. She was given a bed that sits you up etc., but they would only give a single bed, even though she's a young married women!

Hope you get something sorted, the berlingo is van based and most vans tend to do ok in the winter, especially if you get winter tyres fitted - but I bet that will need you to pay for them too, as lease companies like to consider such a safety feature as an add on.

Do you think the adapted access would be better for you then? How did you work it with Emily? Lift it into the boot?
