Just diff, don't need the axle

Thinking on this, would a foofed diff be the reason why I'm so tail happy in the wet, I've spun out a few times in the wet and going round corners and islands

Got to be cheaper and easier to try that first :)

£5.50 for 1L of Comma LSD Gear Oil from the local Motor Factors by me, I'll be grabbing one of those after work

Now how do I top it up? Is it a case of getting under and pouring it into the diff? Or is there a reservoir somewhere?

Quicker and cheaper to change the axle i wouldnt be taking diffs out far to much hassle

Surely just doing the diffs would be easier than the whole axle as there is less attached to it :nenau

You need to drain it first, then refill with new LSD oil 2.8 ltrs I think, half inch knuckle bar is good for getting both drain and level plugs out, Rick

Can I not just top it up?

definitely not the oil gets contaminated with I guess bits from the clutch plates and causes them to lock up more as well as make nasty noises, when I was supplied with the wrong oil for mine a while ago it was like I was driving over rumble strips, I had to stop, thinking I had a wheel loose but could find nothing, changed the oil for the correct one, Comma is the cheapest, and all was well again, gives me a thought actually I could do with a tighter diff on the off roader so will have to try the "wrong oil" ,Rick

No axle change is easy job just nuts and bolts. If your changing the diff you going to have to remove both half shafts before you can remove the diff then you could be looking at new wheel bearings and gaskets oil seals depending on what you find.

Thanks for confirming that :thumb2

Going to fetch another 2 bottles of that Comma stuff tonight and then do a full drain, quick question though, how do I pour it in via the filler plug without spilling it everywhere?

Small funnel?

the bottles come with pull out squirty tubes, you can get most of it in, then decant the rest into the next bottle, you cannot quite get the bottle vertical so always leaves a bit behind, Rick

Top Man :D, I'm sure that I'll gte it in some way or another lol

Remember you must get LSD oil only :thumb2

Don't worry mate, Comma LSD 80-90, already got 1 bottle, fetching another 2 after work so I can do a full drain hoping that this will cure my problem :bow:bow:bow:bow

Right, got under the car earlier, drained the diff oil, and refilled with new stuff, took the whole 3 litres and was then at the correct level as per the workshop download :thumbs

Dropped the car and took it for a run....................... same noise :(

I was so annoyed that I was hanging out of the door while going along and was nearly on the road listening for what it could be, ideally I need someone else to drive while I'm doing this so I can really get close to the source of the noise

I know now that this is def an external rattle, ie, it's not coming from a component that sits enclosed in another component if that makes sense, so I'm def ruling out dif

The things I haven't ruled out my list at the moment are;

Driver side rear spring (seems kinda loose however no visual damage)
Metal plate that sits behind the hub (when knocked it kind sounds the same)
Wheel Bearing???

I WILL find this even if I have to strip the car back down to it's fu*king shell :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Up above the O/S rear wheel, is some sort of weird Brake compensator, and I remember when I first joined this forum, someone had a problem where it was rattling, as the spring had gone, or something... Could it be that?

Looks like your diff breather has snapped off . Same as mine.
