Thought I'd better start updating this thread...

I bought a snorkel from euro4x4, I got it before Christmas but with all the work needing some only just got it fitted a short time ago.

I have to say though, very happy with the product, I might possibly change the head at some point but it really really sucks good and proper and I mean that in a good way :)

My nearside hub just never felt too good, it was really tight and there was no definitive engagement of the lock. So I decided to get some manual hubs. I was looking at avm as they do a hd heavy duty I think it stands for hub which I think I'll need when I get new wheels and tyres.

I also found than in Europe they have an xp avm hub which is extreme performance which I was tempted with but the extra cost and ease of getting it here I went for the tried and tested hd version. (Very little info about the xp)

Also, in the off chance, if something is going to break I would prefer it to be the hub rather than something else in the driveline. Cheaper and easier to fix and will still get you home.

These things really need a kick up the ass and power mod wise they say an egr blank, which it has, exhaust and a chip to get some good oomph.

I read a lot about this and the best chip kept coming up as the unichip as it has more control over more parameters then any other. Ok, had a look and Owen developments is a dealer and not too far away. However, after talking with them they said they wouldn't or couldn't do anything for the poor old girl. Fair enough.

Northampton motorsport on the other hand does tunit and are even closer. If it didn't work I could just get them to take it back, can't loose. And they have a rolling road...:naughty

Standard horsepower is just under 130 and torque is 187Lbs/ft

Tunit say they can get this to 150 and 222. Let's see.

Black line is standard and blue line is tweaked

Red line is where we pushed it too far and was knocking and keeping revs up at idle which doesn't help steep hill decents.

This is the good one. Torque...

248lbs/ft of torque:D

Tunit quoted 222lbs/ft So really happy with that.

The Patrol also now has a Green air filter to help get that but that has got to be the exhaust.

When I first got the exhaust it was great at top of the revs power but I felt it was lacking low down. I thought if I never planned to get a chip the exhaust bore is too big, not enough back pressure. But with the chip it is really working now and sounds awesome. Just a shame I couldn't find an intercooler.

I have also now disconnected the sensor to the intercooler. This sensor tells the fan when to come on if it gets too hot. With the sensor disconnected the fan is on all the time sucking air through the intercooler cooling the intake.

Nice easy little mod :thumbs

I've also fitted a bleed valve to adjust the boost however cant get it to work for some reason. I was hoping to increase the boost by a few psi to 1 bar getting another bit of extra performance but its very strange, you adjust it and it doesn't do anything to give you more boost just doesnt like it and runs badly.
Will need to look into that more to see whats going on.

Never mind, just run it closed and it goes not too bad :)

Morning K
Do you have a fan assembly actually on your intercooler on the 2.8?
I did on my Paj, but the ZD30s don't.

Exhaust for me to soon, but I know getting the cat off these 3.0L is a real pain because of the heat shroud and AirCon plumbing.

I like your choice of freewheeling hubs to.
I'll change my stock autos over to free wheelers before I do the Alps/Pyranees again. I found I was scrubbing a bit on the tighter hairpins.

Hi Davey, yeah the 2.8 has a built in fan assembly below the intercooler, really works well pulling the air through.

I thought the standard hubs were good but just past there sell by date on mine I think. I hope the avm's last me well.

Good luck with your trip to the Alps/Pyranees, sounds awesome. I really want to do something like that or a trip to Morroco when the kids grow up :thumb2

Can I ask where you placed the bleed valve bud as I'm not sure how it would increase boost :nenau

I'll see if I can get a picture tomorrow as a picture says a thousand words as the saying goes. Hopefully someone can help us out

The 2.8 has a wastegated turbo so the bleed valve is just used in the turbo line to fool the wastegate so it thinks it's pre-set boost level has been reached. This results in the wastegate to stay closed longer so boost keeps increasing to the level controlled by the valve. Thats as far as I understand but not sure why mine is not working. Either its in the wrong place or it's not working right itself.

Can they be mounted back to front, as in the wrong way round?

Its actualy mounted closer to the actuator than the boost gauge, I wonder if thats the wrong way for the boost gauge to read the change? :nenau

Sweet, that looks like a great adventure :clap

Whats the red car, is that a y61 or a colorado?

This is the bleed valve here. Its a sytec one and unlike others it has no scribing on it apart from there name. Hard to see but to the right the pipe goes to the actuator and to the left it goes to the intercooler.

I think it's in the right place so I've turned it round as others have a direction on them to plumb them in and I don't see why this should be any different. Will take for a test drive later. If anyone sees anything wrong with it please let us know but if this doesn't work the part is faulty itself I think.
