Hi All,
Im a new member and im having trouble with the old girl the engine 'check' light comes on now and again, to get this to go off i'd rev the engine hi and let it drop off, it'd go off, sometimes for days sometimes for mins,

I seem to have lost power especially on the hills 30mph max up and down 2nd and 3rd gear all the time.

so i changed air, main fuel & oil filter, still no joy

checked 4the mini filter it was so illusive it wasn't there. (tried 4 ages couldn't c it or fish it out no spring also) no inline filter either. (could inj be clogged?)

blocked off egr. (how do u know if its stuck open/closed?)

disc'd afm (hitachi) run worse, reconected quickly

Set tappets,

removed air filter no diff, just louder sounded like it had a dv too

saw fine oil on turbo, cooler and inlet ducts don't know if ment to be there or if its connected, don't seem to be losing much oil

Sorry for the year long sa, just thought i best be thorough.

Ryan (terrano 2, 2.7tdi 120thou)

tdi s dont have a mini filter so nothing to worry about there little bit of oil in turbo probibly just off engine brether or something think theres a down load at top page that tells you how to read your fault codes (when engine light comes on ecu will store why it did) without any fancy computer trickery! then another one lads willl compare your fault number to there cd manual and give you your reason for light comeing on!

im off out with the laptop now can't wait to get it running right, nothing worse than lacking power especially when its a big heavy brute,

Why do some have the mini filter and others don't?

Cheers Ryan

dunno mate it seems when they facelifted and put the intercooler/bonnet scoop on they did away with mini filter most of lads junking the internal one and putting the clear plastik inline ones in for ease of servicing etc put the year etc in signiture itll be more spefic then

Cheers Jace any answer to the egr valve and knowing if its open/closed. And does ne1 know why my replys always first time and it asks me to resubmit them? tx

again some dont have the egr valve lol esp the maverick version i believe! again check downloads there may be something in there to help if your getting probs posting pm mav hell go through and check things for you

right i've bridged the ecu test and here goes my findings

47, 11 & 12
or 47 & 32
but i couldn't find 32 on the list so i went for the 11 and 12 all the flashing threw me! :? Don't know what it all means so over to the knowledgeable ones (thats you lot  )

Thanks in advance Ryan

thats where i have to duck out mate aint got a cd if no ones along soon try a pm to chappy called toolbox his knowledge on these engines is imense im sure hell help you out straightaway! if u want a cd manual sharkie sells em on home page theres an add flashing away if i remember rightly!

think the swearing filters broke its picking up daft things now lol

like the word f l a s h i n g from my previous post if thats classed as swearing were all f l a s h e d

Have a look in the down loads WORKSHOP 29, At the bottom of the page is the fault codes ie
11= Fuel injection pump position sensor
12= Mass sensor circuit fault
47= Crankshaft sensor fault

But pleas check i've got them right  It also list the reasons to a degee for the faults

12 will be when u unplugged the air mass sensor (maf) so shouldnt worry on that one sensors might just want wipe with rag bitove oil or much on the faces u never know!

would you take a picie of your engine for me im interested in where intercooler sits etc mine hasnt got one see and theres loadsa d22 breaking so uk model bonnet with intercooler scoop shouldnt be a problem!

i think its because don't the TD was fitted with it, and not the TDI, nissan must have learnt what a pain it was and done away with it. the TD's without them previous owners probably removed the little darlings

11 and 12 are because you disconnected the afm the fault will be with the magnetic crank sensor on the rear of the engine it picks up metal fillings from the starter ring gear and the clutch which stops it working correctly sending weak signals to the ecu. Its very easy to fix just locate it, remove it and give it a good clean with a soft rag to remove any fillings.

It is acceptable to have a small amount of oil in the manifold it will be only a small amount that has built up over all those miles.

You may have a mini filter my tdi has one fitted but the minifilter is built into the banjo union the bolts ontop of the pump not actually mounted in the pump like on the earlier ones

Nice 1.

I reset the ecu and all cleared, then when the EVIL check light came on rechecked the ecu all that was on was the no47 crank fault.

How do i clean the sensor? I know where the engine is but thats as far as i go!

Well not quiet but a little nudge in the right direction would help right about now pls. Is it in the oil too do i have to drop it out again or can it be done as long as the oils settled.

Last but not least, would this cause the engine to dip revs then shoot up randomly like its possessed, does it affect the power too im hoping i'll find the missing 124bhp

Cheers in advance Ryan
