Don't forget it is clearly visible as I have no rear bumper :sly

Well at long last I got around to getting a new number plate made up & mounted onto the rear door:D In the end I used the same LED light as Clive so cheers mate:thumbs but didn't like how the light looked being high gloss on the back door so sprayed it silver so it blends in better:augie

The old number plate bracket was badly cracked so had a go at plastic welding:lol turned out ok TBH but gave it a thick skim of fibre glass on the back & a light skim on the front to smooth it all out:thumb2 will mount my towbar sockets onto the bracket for now & see how things go, if it turns out to be to weak then i'll replace it with some metal:augie

Looks good... making it silver on your car really works well. :clap

They give off so much light, I was thinking of getting a couple and making them into puddle lights

That's a bit luxurious isnt it? :D

Cheers mate:thumbs just been out to see how well the No plate lights up now it's gone dark & very pleased with it, it even lights up the ground a bit to:lol thinking of poss changing the old No plate bulbs for some LED ones which would make hitching up a caravan in the dark easy
4 of them mounted under a set of side steps would make fantastic puddle lights

Because mine are on the spare wheel, they already do the job of lighting up the tow hitch, as they are directly above it, so I just used the old number plate wires to run a couple of tiny red LED reflector lights, placed where the old number plate was. They give out enough light to also make it easy to see the sockets.

Well the new LED number plate on the rear door has lasted 10 months & is now dead & you can't get them on ebay any more:doh:doh Only noticed it by chance as I had to go into the boot & when I looked at it there was only 3 of the 6 LEDs working but they were very dim & by the time I got home only 1 was left working. The only option i've got left is to fit a LR 90 number plate light as it'll just cover up the holes that are going to be left when I take this one off:augie really gutted as I didn't want a big chunky number plate light & i'm going to have to drill more holes in the back door & try & seal up the others somehow:banghead:banghead:

Thats a shame. Mine are still fine, touch wood.

Before getting one of those big ones have a look for ones for motor bikes.

I've already done that as that's what this one was listed as but it seems that you can only get the smaller version now & the others aren't wide enough:eek:
Pete that looks good but again it's not wide enough:doh had thought about fitting a festy bulb in & have a spare LED one (my other 2 are lighting up a fish tank:lol ) but think the board might be to wide as the light only sticks out about 20mm & 10mm high on the inside going off how thick the plastic is but might have a go at trying to open it up:rolleyes: if I can might be able to get the LED bulb in but not sure I would seal it up again:nenau

How about cutting down some of that LED strip stuff? I use it on kitchens and it's pretty bright :thumbs

You might be onto something Pete:thumb2 you can get 4" LED strips which should work but would still need to seal the back in case I had to get in again:doh

Sweety, can you open the housing and fit another type of LED such as Petes suggestion. You might also be able to fit a few LEDs and resistors in there too.

Going to take it off tomorrow if the weather holds & try to open it up:thumbs worst bit is my MOT is due next month:doh

You've got plenty time. If worst came to worst, simply get an over side landy type thing and fasten on with sticky pad for the test. Doubt they'd even notice as long as it worked.

With the weather being great for a change & the Mrs sadly slipping a disc in her back last night we stopped in today so removed the light. There was no easy way into it so out came the dremel & I cut into the back of the light which took some time as the plastic was thicker than I thought. Once I got in the problem was very clear some how water had been getting in & everything was rusty to the point some of the LED's just fell off the board:doh so just ripped everything out & cleaned up the inside of the light housing.
Found my spare festoon SND LED bulb & flattened the contacts so it would sit flat in the light housing & soldered some wires onto the LED bulb & used some epoxy resin to glue the bulb in place

Next problem was sealing the back up again:augie so went & sat on the back door step in the sun & had a smoke whilst I thought about what I could use then noticed the plastic plant pot saucers next to the empty plant pots so went & got one & cut a strip out of it so it would just fit inside the opening of the light housing & hot glued it in place so it'll be easy to get back inside if/when I need to change the bulb again:thumbs cut up a bit of old bike inner tube to use as a gasket between the light & the door which will hopefully help stop water getting behind the light
