Just gone back and re read the description, and need some clarification, did this noise only happen when the peddle was moving, ie with the peddle held to the floor no noise, if so put it all back together, nothing wrong with the clutch it is the slave cylinder hose and or slave cylinder, Rick

Hi all, i went back up to see the garage and they split the box to check the bearings but all seems well...so they are really confused i think and have suggested that they put it all back together so they can hear and assess the noise, which i thought they would have done in the start....

Rick, the noise only occurred either as the pedal was pressed or held down....what makes you say it is the slave cylinder or the hose, how does that cause the noise?

Are they, as gearbox specialists going to know this or should i mention it?

Just describe the noise again in a bit more detail?

its quite hard to describe....as i pressed the pedal it sounded like a rumbly moan...almost a low screech....

sorry if that sounds weird but not sure how else to explain it...

maybe if still does it video it on phone and post on here everyone who wants to can here noise properly!

i really wish i had done that now....i was gunna as well.....

OK we really need to be very specific here, did the noise continue with the peddle held hard against the floor? if it did then it is thrust bearing or spigot bearing or crank thrust, sorry I forgot to mention spigot before, we had a clutch renewal here a few months ago and we had a noise similar to what you describe such that we took it all apart again only to find nothing wrong after reassembly we still had the problem, so Swifty went under the motor and operated the clutch with a bar, no noise, removed the slave cylinder and hose full of black gunge and hose best part blocked cleaned cylinder fitted new hose job cured, the noise only on operating the peddle was the high resistance and vibration through the hose, Rick

Rick, yes the noise continued whilst the pedal was held hard down and even if i started to release it...up until the pressure was released..

So how do i tell the garage this information you have given?

When my spigot bearing went the noise was a definite clattering with the clutch depressed.

Not as f*cking depressed as I was at the bill though! :lol

senior citizen moment.....laptop and dongle...?? maybe you mean so i can show them this....:clap

i have had a look on the terrano manual and cant find a mention of those other things....give us a clue please..

yes i have been looking at that...but cant see either of the others

OK that is good, if the release bearing is good then I suspect the spigot bearing, this is a bush in the crankshaft that holds the 1st motion shaft steady as this shaft only has one ball race in the box so it can flop about if the spigot has worn/broken up, since it has the clutch center plate hanging on it it will chatter about all over the place with resultant noise, so short answer tell them to check the spigot bearing, Rick

Rick, i have had a look at the manual and i think i have found it, on the end of the crankshaft but it is referred to as pilot bush, is it a readily available part?

what should i expect it to cost?

yes pilot bush same thing, probably main dealer only, should only cost couple of £s but Nissan probably £10, but nothing compared to the labor needed to change it, Rick

but if the box is already out.....should be a piece of piss i guess??
