Nitro Buggy!

i used to have radio control cars when i was a kid, not to any serious level as we were poor (violins please)

anyway, over the years as I have "grown" up, ive wanted a proper, nitro buggy. somert to tinker with, but not too expensive. I bought one from ebay a few years ago and, are you ready for this?didnt work! can you believe my luck? engine trouble. anyway, lost interest/money and gave up.

now mi mate has gone and put the idea into my head again and i want another, but this time, im going to save up and buy new.

i cant afford a proper one, plus its pointless as I am amateur, so pro kit is no good to. Ive had a look on't ebay, and various shops. seems you can get a fun toy for £130 all in. only issue i have is how flimsy these cars are. I fancied one of the mini nitro Truggys, but ive read that they are front end flimsy, so if you drive into your own foot, you'll break your toe as well as the cars suspension, axel and drive shafts!

anyone have any experience with these generally cheaper nitro cars??

thats something i'd like to have a go at, i fancy a 1/8 off road truck, my mate races remote control cars, battery powered trouble is the bats dont last very long, he advised me to go for a petrol/nitro mix i think thats right, they are more reliable and a thank of fuel last a fair time, and less expensive to repair, the cheap versions are flimsey and easily broken. more money.:doh:augie

its the flimsy cars im worried about, but they are all i can afford. i suppose the parts are cheap enough though, but i wonder if i shoudl save up and get a sub £200 one instead, thats perhaps more crash proof?

im going to go for NItro, i researched electric and whilst they are good, the battery wont last too long. plus i already have a nearly full carton of fuel...

clive, why dont you google radio control clubs in your area. go along have a look , pick up some tips etc.
you might even find cars or boats for sale that you can see working. think thats the way to buy nice kit

might just do that, and me and my mate are going to that place in Elland Briggie mentioned earlier for a look. My mate has just bought one, and we are going to collect tonight. the main issue i have is cost, hence my hesitation about buying one of the cheaper models, but when i go to the shop, i can ask them.

Strange you should start this thread as I bought a Schumacher 21-XS in 1996, which is .21c 1/10 scale Nitro Truck and cost nearly £300.00 back then. I built and used the buggy about 4 or 5 times back then, but it broke and I attempted to, and failed, to repair it at the time. It was then stuffed into the deepest recesses of the garage until I recently got the itch to buy another one, but thought I would try and get the old one going first. Inevitably spares are as rare as hens teeth, but I'm determined to get it working again.

I have also been looking at getting a new electric buggy setting a maximum budget of around £200.00. My shortlist so far is the Tamiya Rising Storm or a Team Associated RC10 B4.1. I want one in kit form that you build from scratch, which I think is part of the fun, however it seems that not so many kits are made now as the guy in a local RC shop told me ' people don't have the time now and want them ready to run out of the box'.

Nitro power is very realistic and in theory you can use it all day long, but I found very tricky to keep them going and a bit messy. Electric would now appear to be as fast and very easy to look after.

thanks Alan, it is a bit of a connundrum i think. the electric ones have come a LONg way since i used them. only thing i cant find out about them at the moment, is how long they last on a single charge. the way i see it, i would only need a few hours play at a time, and electric RC cars appear to be MUCH cheaper too. Im hoping to get some answers on Saturday, i just wish some places did buy now pay later lol, as i really cant afford one!!

I was a model Hovercraft lad back in 1969 had my Pee-Wee powered single channel RC craft and it was brilliant but difficult to steer.

Used on short grass tarmac and flooded fields eventually crashed it badly and lost interest. Gave the engine away and binned the craft.

Then I spotted one of these in someones front room and had a yak with the enthusiastic owner - have the bug to buy a toy again now I'm 62 !!

Its the money thats held me back but I have lost count of how many times I have nearly pressed the buy it now button ! Its just over that £200 budget I have mentally walled myself into.

if you do happen to buy one theres a race track about 3 miles from your house (purpose built for these), im not sure if you have to join a club to use it..

me and my mate went to pick his up from Rochdale last night, its a big REX-X buggy with a 25 engine in it. engine needs a clean but works, so hopefully we will go for some practice runs soon!

havent tried it, only got it today. looks good for the money, used but nothign chipped or broken. Will be trying it weekend...

cost £95 plus £20 postage, post was a bit suspect, so if it doesnt work weekend ill be having a word, but im sure it will be fine...

I have 4 or 5 nitro buggys and trucks upstairs somewhere, have not used them for years though

When I had one (T-maxx) truck I used it all the time. then i bought some more buggys and trucks then ended up with way too many batteries to charge for cars, trucks, controllers, starters etc. too many different types of fuel to worry about etc and I could never decide which one I wanted to use so I kind of gave up with them :doh

might get them out again one day :clap

get the air filter cleaned and oiled first, make sure your glo plug heater is properly charged, it may even be worth investing in a new one as old ones are often not the best. take your glow plug out and make sure it lights up well when you connect it to the heater.

and try using re chargable batteries in the car, they have better amperage and the extra power will help it steer better
