Mines currently 75% SVO 25% BioDiesel and running sweet :D

Was that graduall or instant or from 50/50 mix
What does the svo actually stand for :stupid as i thought co would of been short for cooking oil :stupid

I always thought SVO=Single Veg Oil as in no mixing or blending, apparently it means Straight Veg Oil these days, much the same I suppose..................confused yet :lol

The other is WVO=Waste Veg Oil i.e used.

I worked out the mix very hit and miss, I tried it to see if it would work, not much science really.

I had it on 100% SVO last week no problems. I'm just aware that diesel additives are better in term of cleaning out crap so so I run some diesel through now and then. Another alternative is to stick a bit of millers in or as our good colleague Paul will explain , acetone.

Its fun going back to junior chemistry :D

Thank-you Sir :bow i'll be quite in class now :lol:lol:lol (not) :lol:lol:lol

Well i think i'll c what me 1st full tank does & go from there :thumbs
Can you buy 25ltr drums of "svo" :lol - "COOKING OIL" :lol or is it trade only i.e. Chippys
As i reckon i'd empty out my local Tescos Express :lol:lol:lol

Its true Adz, a dose of Millers Diesel Plus or 150ml or so of neat (pure( acetone) is supposed to help the burn process.

If you put acetone in straight diesel you should feel a slight improvement and the engine runs a tad quieter...just make sure its the pure industrial stuff (cheap as chips from fibreglass users).

I've been to the supermarket and filled a trolley in the past :D

Best bet is buy in bulk like Paul, but then you'll need somewhere to keep a big **** off IBC (my missus is only so tolerant ;) )

Other than that , Makro, at the mo 20 litres for £14.65 or larger Tescos 10 litres @ £7.99 (I think it was £7.99, defo under £8)

In all seriousness I'd introduce the oil gradually, my blase method probably wasnt the best :(

Ok,ta :thumbs
What is the "acetone".?

its a solvent - easily available....you can even buy 5 litres on ebay but its the most expensive way.....cheapest is a fibreglass supplier...get a small amount first though just to try it.

BTW, I went straight to 50/50 with no problem. My only tip would be wait til a few seconds after the glowplug lights goes out til you start her up, to make sure its at its hottest.

OK
Thanks for the help,time & info :thumb2
Just to make sure :doh
Diesel & SVO = ok + additive every other full tank or so...
Diesel & acetone = slowly introduce... :doh

Almost ;)

Diesel SVO you should build up the ratio slowly....main issue is that SVO has a habit of making any existing problems worse. MY truck runs better and quieter on 50/50 for example, while Extremes runs a bit rough....

Acetone needs no build up period.....google 'acetone in diesel' for alleged benefits.

I stick approx 150ml every time i fill up. I suggest you buy a small amount though to start with in case you think its a waste of time...but full whack immediately and it takes a tank or two to start to feel the benefit, but its like using premium fuel IMHO.

:D 2nd full tank is out of the pump diesel 50% & 50% sun flower oil :sly

Now I've fixed the leaking exhaust :augie and a careful, not neccesarily light, right foot using 50% plus svo I'm easily getting 30mpg on mixed driving:thumb2

Totally chuffed :clap

I'll be interested to see if wiring the heater in (hopefully tomorrow) increases efficiency and therefore mpg :nenau

Umm...wonder how much difference the heater will make  where abouts are you mounting it  & how ya wiring it in

I'll be interested to see how mine does now

I dont know if the heater will increase the efficiency but hopefully what it will do is extend the time I can use svo into the colder weather.

if anyone wants them once I've installed it I'll put some pics up.

On the subject of adding acetone, i read these comments ....

The page states it makes no difference to mpg, but that to me is disproved from comments mentioned above.

It's the other effects i think are worth mentioning ...
Acetone is the primary ingredient in nail-polish remover. And while it will burn and is a high-octane material, it’s also a very powerful solvent. So while it’s in your fuel system, it’ll be eagerly dissolving all of your rubber components ... like gaskets and O-rings.

Some cars have a rubber hose in the fuel line that goes between the fuel-cap assembly and the tank. When you add your acetone, pouring 100 percent, undiluted rubber-eater right onto that tube, you’ll be eating through it in no time. (I don't know if this is the case of the Terrano/Maverick)

in very serious quantities that might be an issue, but we're talking about 150mls in 80 litres, (or 80,000 mls) - thats less than 0.2% by volume. Not gonna happen. :)

I've been doing it for more than 100,000 miles with no side effects whatever.
