hi fitted new rear disc to o/s yesterday £11 lol.
had a look around and found rear coil spring had snapped very near to the top .
looking to get a second hand one so only have to change the one.
But having said that it had new ones all round from famous four 3years ago so maybe a new one just on that side would be ok.
had a quote from Paddock spares £33 for new pair.
gear box rattling well now so maybe a swap soon.
and front screen cracked ,had a stone chip between wiper blades right at bottom of screen .it cracked almost straight away its now travelled all the way across to passenger side and now gone to top of screen a second crack is following the first so will soon have tram lines wondering if screen will shatter or just hold together its got an MOT till next March .£70:doh

Hi had to do a of head scratching has a banging/ bumping /grinding coming from the nearside back wheel .
OR SO I THOUGH .
Turns out its the rubber doh-nut at the rear of the prop shaft.
It didnt look to bad a week ago but i took it off sunday and its well past its best.
allowing the bolts to move round the mounting and then contact the flange which in turn let the prop shaft try to revolve around the rear diff which then tried to lift the n/s/back wheel of the ground. :doh
all ok again now but gave some very strange symtems.

HI quick update .
had to replace rear springs due to breaking one.
came of a scrapper for £10 the pair.
Quite an easy job to do with the aid of a couple of garage jacks.
replacements are 2" longer than the originals and its made a lot of difference to ride although its not lifted the disco much.

Just had a window screen fitted . 2 fitters turned up at 4pm pissing it down so got it in the garage. took about 1hr drinks and chock biccys.
They advised not to move it for 4 hrs till sealer set.
insured with Adrian Flux .
had to pay £90 access.
Just re insured with them £217 comp.
£35 cheaper than last yr.

Well the old girl passed the MOT again
just needed a rear axle oil seal change and o/s headlight aim.
cheap as chips.

well the old girl let me down today. first time in 3 years.
had a week off last week so its been stood for 5 days.
started up straight away this morning as per normal.
came to it tonight thought i would check the oil and water.
all ok but noticed the serpentine belt had a few cracks in it.
ready for changing me thinks.
decided to start it up and have a look see.
noticed the Klean oil filter bracket had snapped so stopped engine to investergate. decided it would be ok to drive home ,then weld bracket.
tried to re start and the bugger had had enough cought and sulked .:thumb2
arranged for a jump start only to find i had been locked in the carpark .
1 hour later on my way .
bracket welded so fingers crossed nothing else for another 3 years.

alternator packed up on the way to work this morning .
sheila picked one up for me this afternoon from local factors.
£106 plus a new serpentine belt. £15.
took old alternator off .it should have been held on by 2 bolts .
1 was missing in action.
by the look of the bracket the bolt had been missing a long time.
later found out bolt had snapped in the bracket on engine .
cannot get at it without removing radiator:doh
so out with a tie wrap:clap
shimmed new alternator up and looks to be running true.:clap

cleaned old alternator up and there was a landrover sticker on it.
DATE STAMPED 1997.
same year as the truck.:thumbs
if its original its done 188.982 miles

sunday Disco reached 190k.:clap
general condition now is engine still good doesnt smoke uses very little oil.
gearbox sounds as though a bearing is going as it whines on over run and under load (but its been like it for at least the last 10k.
duck`t tape still holding n/s indicator together after that pheasant hit it months ago.
it would be nice to see 200k

BF Goodrich All Terrain tyres HAVE NOW DONE AT LEAST 60K :clap

Coming home tonight gearbox started to make a grating sound , "same in all gears" ,then transmission started snatching, eventually got so bad i had to pull over .
I tried to move truck forward and back.
More snatching and a little movement and a sound like drive cogs loosing contact with each other as truck lurched forward or backwards.
Same in Hi and Low range ,no difference with "DIFF LOCK" in or out.
RAC towed me the 5 miles home,
(all levers in neutral engine running).
towed with no noise and as sweet as a nut.
managed to reverse onto drive with RAC man pushing.lol.
Any thoughts as to whats gone wrong and any tips as to where to start looking.

WELL ITS FINALLY STOPPED HAIL/RAINING.lol.
been laid at side of drivers door while wife tried to drive over me.
noise seems to be coming from clutch area. so could be clutch after all.
will get the overalls on tomorrow and get right underneath and try again.
hopefully the 2" of puddle will have dried up by then.

bought a w reg ford Focus 1.4 today so i think ians disco days are numbered.
fuel bills are crippling me so hope focus will make a difference.
anyone had dealings with a focus its done 99k so a bit high milage .
