Please Don't misunderstand what I am saying.
It was a bit of horses for courses..........

I am at the moment looking at purchasing another 4x4 vehicle, to date I have tried Terrano, Patrol, Shogun , RANGE ROVER, DISCOVERY, and at the moment the ones that appear to be the best in general are....well yes you guessed it the last two.

You must av had some real bad luck with the first few for the last 2 to come out on top

IANS DISCO

hi time for an up date.
changed the cambelt took all weekend .had to make a locking device to hold the crankshaft while i re tightened it up 59ft ibs plus 90 degs.
had to use a breaker bar with a trolley jack handle on the end of it to get the leaverage.
To undue the bolt place breaker bar against chassis pull off the fuel pump solinoid cable so she wont start. then flick the key ,A BIG BANG AND HEY PRESTO ITS UNDONE SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME. :p
Old belt showed signs of oil contamination and a little ware
at least i know its good for another 70k .
she has now done 154k

hi
I have now done 5k in the DiscoDuck including towing caravan to IOW.
with no problems.
TOWING .
UNDER POWERED ,CUTS THROUGH THE WIND LIKE A SHED .
WHEN A LORRY COMES PAST IT STOPS ME DEAD. THEN TRIES TO SUCK OUTFIT UNDER ITS WHEELS. SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME FIRST TIME IT DID IT.
RIDE HEIGHT OF CARAVAN IS TO HIGH SO GOT TO PUT A 2" DROP PLATE ON .TROUBLE IS ITS GOT A SOUTHDOWN HITCH ON ALREADY .THATS THE ONE WITH A RANGE OF HOLES IN IT ALREADY .
THE LOWEST IS STILL TO HEIGHT BY 2"
DID WELL ON FUEL ABOUT 35LTS OF FUEL FOR 180 MILES.
rgds.iandouglas
PS THE TERRANO WAS MUCH BETTER IN ALL WAYS WHEN TOWING.

i today i turned my disco into a chip shop .
running 25% veg oil stinks a bit but it definatly goes better /quieter as well.
£1.07 ppl from NETTO diesel £1.29.
rgds.iandouglas

What make injection pump is your disco running Ian?
If its like the early ones with a Lucas/Delphi pump, I would air on the side of caution as they tend not to like veggie oil.

IANS DISCO

Ians Disco

tale of whoe.
viscous fan bearing is on way out ,only trouble is its part of the timing belt cover .so I will have to fit a new one .List price £128 + vat.
could of had a second hand one for £48 but didnt want to risk having to do the job again in a few months .
Wish it had started to knock before i fitted new cam belt could have done both jobs at once.
still its the first money ive spent on it other than cam belt kit.

Disco rust box

HI i noticed the exhaust was making a racket ,looked underneath and one of the support brakets had come away from pipe .got round to welding it back on after a reinforcing patch was miged on. job done pulled myself out from under and put my hand straight through drivers side sill.
started striping it out tonight .
what a crap design .they put a reasonable sill on then welded body mouldings to it .WITH BUILT IN HOLES TO TRAP MUD ,WATER ,CRAP ECT.
THEN TO TOP IT OFF LETS PUT A PLASTIC OVERSILL ON .
So mud gets thrown at the back of it and there it sits .12 years worth have done for the outer sill and part of the inner sill .bit more cutting away to do then start making sills for it .
got steel from work so that will help.
near side is in good condition.
photos taken .

sounds like you have got case of the old tin worm ian.
bracket on exhaust wasn't done on minninglow lane the other week was it as you did say that it was scraping the undeside a bit.
got a few bits to do on mine for mot.
replaced n/s front drive shaft last week as the cv boots had split.didn't need a drive shaft but the one off the dead t2 has got nearly new cv boots on so i swapped it.
one of the rear seat belts has got a nick in it so i'm gonna change that later.
front arb bushes have had it and the front brake discs look a bit glazed.
thats what iv'e found so far i'm sure i will find some more.

Coming home tonight got a shudder through the truck then a screech.
front wheel bearing d/s shot.
limped home nice and steady got it in the garage .wheel off ,5 bolts holding outer cover on .locking nut ,lock washer ,nut. brake caliper
steel pipe from caliper into rubber flexie locked through a steel strap.
need to clear strap to lift caliper off disc.:doh
cut a V in bracket opened it up cleared no problem:clap
took front bearing out ,pulled on hub  D`oh stuck solid.
reae bearing cage in pieces managed to get it out followed by the rollers .
good hard pull and hub and disc came off leaving inner bearing race on stub axle.
welded itself to the stub axle :eek::eek:.:doh
hammer and chistle wouldnt budge it .
out with the angle grinder with a 1/8" slitting disc .
cut nearly through ,split it with a chistle ,came off in pieces leaving the remains of the welded inner race behind .:doh
ATTACKED that with a die grinder .
NOW READY FOR NEW BEARINGS £28 +VAT

I have noticed that the cc mayday red flag break down run by green flag shows a disco on their recovery vehicle in the leaflet this year, instead of a terrano in other years.... not yours is it Ian? regards bri
