changed engine oil and fuel filter last night so left her running 15 mins.
Saturday pulling willow tree roots out of fishing lake .
realy impressed with the engine toque i just put it in first gear low box diff lock in set off on tick over never touched throttle ,it would pull a house down.
so quite mixed driving .

HI ROSSCO.
Not washed her yet size of the bonnet puts me off a bit ,"one thing how do i reach the roof to wash that".
anyone seen a disc in a car wash?.

You use a pair of steps - just like I have to. The Patrol is wider than a Disco, so it's harder to reach the middle of the roof. I almost need steps to wash the bonnet!!

Cheers

That is very good - if the odometer is accurate. I don't think I'll ever get that from the Patrol -- though I'm not overly prone to driving at 55mph on motorways, so I'd probably not find out, even if it were possible.

Cheers

true if its on oversize tyres and other such gooodies speedo could be way out sat nav will show better reading

IANS DISCO

hi
speedo and sat nav corrispond as regards speed .
not checked against milage but these 247/75x16 are obout 2" deeper
than 205`s so may be a little out .
last owner said speedo used to be 3 mph slow according to his sat nav before fitting these tyres.
so hopefully not to far out on miles covered.

Hi,

Think we can rename this thread now as Iandouglas has not collect his disco tonight and the title of this one is now out of date.

HI
UP DATE ON MY DISCO.
Have now found out the steering pump is weak worn out in side so bye passing or something. last owner had a power steering pipe blow and ran pump dry. it cannot be taken out of the belt drive due to a serpentine belt going around all pulleys .
not a big job but got to take viscous fan off .cost me £12 for a spanner "sykes pickervant"
got a NEW oe pump for £76 + vat.........terrano one new was near £380.
other complaint is a very heavy clutch pedel even though its a hydrolic unit. i find it a lot heaver than other discos ive driven so may have a compatition clutch plate.
got a rear bump stop £7 just got to fit it .
got two gear lever return springs for £2 each again just got to fit them.
NONE OF THE ABOVE STOP ME DRIVING THE DISCO.

done a lot of town driving this last two weeks still getting 29.5 mpg. :p .
rgds.iandouglas aka DiscoDuck.
ps.
i have now found the arial its built into a side window. so wont get broke.
this also meens its a late model 300A/ tdi the last year of manufacture .
before the TD5 model came out.

Hello again Iandouglas, I have been moving your Disco thread around the site trying to find somewhere where we can put it.

We now have an area for members other vehicles where we can put Disco, Vitara, and MR2 posts.

I think its set up correct.

HI.
WELL I HAVE DONE 175 MILES NOW. SO FAR SO GOOD.
THE DISCO DUCK as i now call her
Apparently you can get a lot of water in the boot erea mine is dry at the moment but if the gutter seals or alpine window seals fail i may have to call her the DUCK DISCO
You could get a lot of ducks in there its a shock when i turn round to see all that room .
At work today i checked diff oils and sprayed the Hi- Lo -Diff lock box with easing oil "the linkage rusts up due to not being used"
rear diff needed almost 1/2 a pint + front an egg cup full.
been checking oil and water and all is well. :p
whilest under neath i found a rear bump stop missing and an exhaust (U) clamp RUSTED RIGHT THROUGH .
LATEST MOD FOR DISCO IN NEED OF A DOWN PIPE .
IS TO FIT ONE OF A L-R 90 (NO CAT) SO AIDS PERFORMANCE A BIT.
I HAVE PUT A SMALL PEBBLE IN THE EGR VACUME PIPE so disabling it
normal dodge is to blank egr off and sling it.
they say it improves low down torque ,did seem to pull better at very low revs in traffic tonight. will change up at 1500rpm this in 4th gear =30 mph
fuel consumption looks good not done any figures yet but max rpm has been 2,600 not far of 70 mph.
steering box needs adjusting to much free play same set up at terrano to adjust.
FINALY GOT RADIO OF RADIO ONE AND ONTO FOSSLE FM aka radio two

so how do you adjust the steering box on a terrano :?:

terrano steering box adjustment

hi rsaddo
sorry only just seen your enquirery about adjusting steering box on terrano.
look straight down at side of battery you will see the steering box.
on the top of it there is a thread sticking up ,with a lock nut on it.
DO A SEARCH as there is a lot of info already in forums about how to adjust.
rgds.iandouglas
.............................................................
from Toolbox of another post
The adjusting screw on the top of the steering box, will only take out any free play in the box, if you over tighten it will cause the steering to become tight and bind and will not allow the steering to self centre when driving. If you adjust this make sure the steering is not binding in any position from one lock to another. It can be a little tricky to get correct a fraction of a turn can be all it needs to make it bind.

HI
UPDATE ON POWER STEERING .
well i changed the power steering pump and it made very little differance .
i changed serpentine belt today and that did make a differance.
i can only think that because the belt was worn and old it had lost some of its grip ,remember the power steering pump relies on friction of the BACK of the belt to drive it.
i couldnt hear any belt slip .at any revs while turning steering wheel.
BUT with new belt in place rev to 1,200 rpm turn steering wheel and you can see on rev counter and hear the revs drop.
hence better steering.
might be worth a try before replacing a pump.
WISH I HAD THOUGHT OF THAT.

WELL IVE DONE MY FIRST DAYS LANEING WITH THE DISCO.
First lane was LEESIDE and she just glided straight up with hardly a slip.
what suprised me and sheila was how easily she rolled over humps and hollows without hardly any body roll. and a much softer ride for us both.
once i had got used to the extra length and width the narrow lanes wer`nt
a problem. extra ground clearance also helped .By the time we got to Houndkirk moore at the end of the day i was getting a bit ambitious and put sheila onto the high side of one or two rough bits whick got the disco leaning a bit it felt very secure .
Sheila woke up this morning complaining of stiff neck and shoulder so it looks as though i over cooked it a bit.
as there is no grab handle in the dash due to passenger air bag.
sheila found it a bit hard to hang on and brace herself .
rgds.iandouglas

No harm is meant by this but I feel that I have to say something.
Why is this thread still going on? It's not a Nissan nor a Ford. Am I alone in wondering about this thread.
Surely this discussion should be going on within another [Land Rover]site.
:? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

The reason this sections is here is so that the members that have asked for an "other vehiclie section" have somewhere to post about there Land Rover, MR2, Vitars, pugs ect.

So we gave them somewhere of there own, This keeps all other vehicle stories in the same place, This saves having them all over the forums.

All i can do is try to keep everyone happy.

hi thor.
i am still finding out about the disco and weather i like it or not .
ive still got my Terrano as well ,but its sat in the garage at the moment awaiting some warmer weather so i can do a bit of work on her .mean time i needed something else to replace it ,the disco came along at the right time and as i had never had anything to do with L/R i thought i would give it a go.
i have put this thread together with mavs consent as one members opinion of another brand of 4x4. and judging by the number of views this thread has had its raised a bit of interest.
i realise you did not join the nfmoc to read about my Discovery .
:? :? :? :? :? :? :? sorry for that. :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?
yes there are a lot of L/R sites and i am a member of 4 of them.

we run the clubs to help each other and on the beginners day 3 out of the 5 group leaders were from another club and the other 2 were members of both clubs.
