When I got the Terrano, I was a little disappointed that the heater was not that hot :(

I like my vehicles to have a hot heater and the air con to work... that's just me. Anyhow, I had a good search/read up on the forum this morning and saw that someone mentioned checking the pollen filter. So out I went and removed it, not that bad, still white in places, but still dirty. As I didn't have a new one, I thought I'd just leave it out and see if it improves the heater.

Oh yeah baby, the heater is noticeably much warmer now. :D

Is there any issue if I left it out for the winter months? I'll get round to fitting a new one next spring. If I leave it out, I should be able to get max heat... :naughty

Changing the thermostat and giving the cooling system a good hose through sorted mine out

thoughts for future, the way my truck is going its gonna have the best heater of any maverick. AS IT BURNS!!!!!!

you want a good heater, get a subaru legacy, my good god, i've never had a car i couldn't turn the heater up full heat and full fan, jesus, that thing was like sitting in the middle of the sun!!

check your cars running temp - how long does it take for the needle to reach half way (or near enough)? And when it does, how hot is it?

As an example, mine has an 88 degree thermostat. With the 82, it hardly ever reach past 1/4, heater never that hot. With 88 its up to temp very quickly, and red hot (almost!). My point is this, if your temp gauge isn't hitting half way, then think about changing the thermostat. If you do that, refit a new pollen filter to keep the crap out of your face.

If you have AC then the pollen filter effectively keeps the evaporator clean.

The evaporator can get caked in a nice coating of organic matter which then becomes wet when the AC is in use, eventually it will not smell good!

My temp gauge goes up to between 1/4 and 1/2 in about 10 minutes. Is that right?

yup :thumbs I think mine is a smidge quicker than that though, but it sounds about right to me!

might be worth checking the thermostat sometime, just to see which type it is.

Personally I think the air box around the cooler unit for the air con what ever its called will attract condensation and so will attract dust and muck. Also any muck and dust that goes in to the heater box may well clog the vanes of the heater matrix. Thats my way of thinking so I just replace it for what it costs.
