Whats happening ,is this taking place or not, need to know so can book for weekend for caravan ,Dinky

I would like to give green laning a go but I fear it is a little far away for me

By the way...

1. How demanding does green laning get ie. is it likely I need to get all 'A team' on my car or is standard build ok?

2. Should I get special insurance for off road/ Off Highway use?

3. I don't do caravans... Are B&Bs available in the area?

Hi Insurance wise should be covered for greenlaning, might not be covered for off road courses.mt/at/atr tyres should be ok.Just take time get a good os map and make sure roads are legal, try to go with another vehicle so you have help. enjoy yourself Dinky

i agree with dinky advice except that check with insurance company as some do not consider it covered.

demanding. thats a hard one you can have very demanding green lanes thats why it is always worth getting out and walking some of the route or use route that other members know is capable for you vehicle ie when i go out i wont take mine anywhere to cause damaged apart from tyre lost numberplate etc if i think it is too severe i will turn around and meet up at the other end.

just takes common sense.

B &B there always B&B around various areas depending on where the greenlane is runing from i suppose.
you can get some great deals on the internet for B & B

hope this helps

As all "green lanes" are legally driven public highways, there is absolutley no reason why insurance can be refused or altered in anyway.(this is why all vehicles must be taxed, tested and road legal.) The only exception being for "off road use" which is such as your off road centres, for example Tong. However Fife being in Scotland your laws are differant and I have no knowledge of these. I'm sure thats what Robobone meant I just wanted to clarify for other members.

Robobone, Cameraman & Dinky

Thanks guys... I think my truck to be fairly capable... I would hope to be at a club meet for my first green lane session... That way I can just follow a Terrano with a veteran green laner at the wheel.

Thanks again.

unfortunatley i cannot remember which insurance companies i tried at the time

but it was at least 2 would not accept greenlaning even after they spoke to their underwriters.

so the reason for my post is always check with them to make sure

We're moving off topic slightly, but would your insurance company refuse to cover you on the M1, you have the same legal rights on either type of road.

i am sorry if you think i am lying but i have only stated from experience

Don't think Andy thinks you're lying just that your insurance broker is talking out of his....err.....head. It's lack of knowledge on what a green lane is, they don't realize you're just talking about a public road that happens to be unsurfaced.

I never inferred you were lying, just that the companies have it wrong. Don't be so quick to take offence there was none meant it was discussion.

i can only talk from experience of when i was hunting for insurance.
i even got them to ask the underwriters.

i still think my advice is sound as if by any chance someone has a bump greenlaning then tries the insurance companies(one of the two at least i tried) then the ins company says not covered its too late

all i am saying is make sure you ask because even if it is through lack of knowledge of the broker underwriter or who ever its better safe than sorry.

if you think my advice is wrong then delete my posts and i wont bother trying to help anymore

If you're talking to your insurers don't mention anything about off road, you will not be off road when green laning. They need to understand that the lanes involved are normal public roads that just happen to not be surfaced.

Of course I believe you, I was just trying to put another view forward, same as Hummingbird says they are roads, just unsurfaced. You don't go "off road" unless your off route. Insurers use any excuse they can to increase premiums and this should not be one of them.

so surely its best to clarify if covered for greenlanes

which is my point

Pleased we have that sorted then,

Can we now get back get back on the topic of the green laning weekend.

Completely took over Hummingbirds thread!.

Thanks.

Mav.
