Thinners is good for shifting the gunk I use a paint spray gun. The solvent in the cleaning tanks is basically kerosene with a stabiliser added. Parrafin works just as well, As rick mentioned bearings dont look that bad at bet the crank is just as nice. Make sure to lap the valves back in before putting them back.

Awesome Pics Pete :thumb2

Seen a fair few engines out of trucks but have to be honest, this is the first time I've seen a TD27TI back to bare bones like that. I concur with Douglas!!! Fascinating

:bow

Roman Numerals too you posh git :thumbs

Injectors ?

Cam is off being reprofiled. Block being honed. Meh pump acquired.
Now looking at injector mods.
I'm led to believe if I reduce the break pressure down to say 140 bar , from 160 ish, more fuel gets delivered ??
Thoughts please

Nope fuel metering is done by the pump not the injectors, lowering the break pressure will reduce the atomisation so larger droplets of mist will be delivered, not what you need, if anything increase the cracking pressure, but this will of course put more strain on the pump, Rick

Can you tell what it is yet 😊

Rebuild update

Back on this power modding engine thread :thumbs
The block has been pretty much totally stripped down to it's bare essentials ready for the clean up.
Here's the block back from being honed.

Next came the arduous weight lifting to get out of the car and onto the engine spit  Followed by a cup of tea and a lot of scrubbing.

More round the other side.

New main bearing shells and big ends arrived in the post :D

If there's not too much snow in the morning I'll be rebuilding at last :D

Just a precautionary deglaze kinda hone . Std rings going back in as it's well within tolerance according to the engine guys ☺

Properly cold day in the unit  At one point it got to a balmy zero degrees. I was double gloved :lol
The kettle was busy and helped me get all those fiddly external ancillary bits on the block before I forgot where they went. Never done so much part cleaning. I'm asking the Easter bunny to bring me a parts washer :thumbs
Oil filter housing seals

It scrubbed up well enough to spot any leaks at least :lol
Turbo water pipe also cleaned and fitted

On the other side it's a lot easier just had to fit sender and oil pipe to vacuum pump ( I think lol )

At last onto the shiny shells , after more cleaning

Mr Crank has entered the building :naughty

Mains oiled , thrusts in and all tightened up :clap

Finally today as my fingers were frozen stumps I just managed to get the crank oil seal plate on.

Tomorrow night it's piston time :beer

Quality Pete!!!!!

I now too want a parts washer, it's amazing what you end up looking at once you've brought a hydraulic press :doh
