This post is great. Make sure you keep these photos safe Pete. We don't need another fotochugit disaster. :thumb2

Late one at work tonight so no updates.
I have ordered a posh piston ring spanner though. Didn't fancy my chances of getting all those out unharmed :lol

Cam shimming ?

OK guys I'm a little challenged on the next bit of the engine build.
My reprofiled cam needs shimming to get the extra lift.
Anyone have any experience on this job ?

You mean your thumbs do not have hard enough skin to prise those rings apart? I am disappointed in you Pete, Rick

Erm this is a normal 2.7 TDi right, so has rockers YES which are adjustable Yes so what is all this shims stuff, unless you have an overhead cam that you are keeping secret, Rick

:lol
Can you imagine what would come out of the workshop after locking Rick and Pete in for a few weeks. :lol

I shudder to think as well, Pete is a bit of a boyo when it comes to upgrades, I just like shear power without the show bit bits, :augie Rick

My thumbs are indeed man enough but I'm so afraid of damaging the piston . It was bad enough putting them on but the other way round  no ta. So on this occasion I've gone all soft :camping:

Rick , the cam has been reprofiled and as I understood it, to get the "hi-lift" bit of things I need to lift the followers by that amount :nenau In this case 3mm
I looked in the manual and it does mention shims but I didn't understand where they should go ?

The shims mentioned in the manual are for the zd30 engine which has an over head cam and uses shims to set the valve clearance. You shouldnt need to adjust anything for the extra lift as that is the whole point of a re-profiled cam as its the cam that provides the lift. It should be a matter of fit and set the clearance as normal. Dont forget to check the valve springs for coil bind as well when you've finished.

Ah yes but I dont think the cam had extra metal added and then machined ? I think it's simply reground to the new profile .
I think I'd better ask newman's again ;)

I would say best thing is speak to newmans again. It may be that you need different rocker arms to gain extra lift ;).

Ah the weekend at last :D Is there any advantage if I use bosch injectors or Zexel :nenau
I'm using mech pump so makes no odds mechanically ;)
Any benefit, I want it :sly
