you can do it mate, if you've got a socket set and extension bars of varying lengths its simple enough to do. If i can do it, you can.

Tackling from the top?

Intercooler off does look like you have a lot more space to play with, I may try that??

go for it, all I know is I didn't have to remove the I/C, but as I say, I used a socket set with various extension bars so I had the wrench well clear of the I/c

if you think egr is working could try to disconnect that vac hose. I have
on Sweety's advise, popped a screw/bolt into end of hose then parked it
out of way of heat caught it on a bit of bracket nearby.

then if feel has improved could blank properly, if no better go for blanking
though thinking if have stopped it working then why bother blanking.

Ok so I think I've got the right place as a gasket has just fell out, but even though I followed the template the holes don't match

Going to have to get them re-drilled

Just having another one drilled

The one I've removed is the one on the side of the silvery metal manifold not the one off the pipe that goes down to the back of the engine and then connects to the circular brass thing with the pipe on?

I played it tactfully, I sprayed a load of cleaner in the hose to the egr to hopefully free up the valve if at all stuck... Then rick fitted a plate straight through, he only loosened it off, didn't even remove :thumb2

ya know sometimes this is like watching an epsode of the simpsons, Doh :lol:lol:lol:lol

as Alex says, you can chop the ends off if re drilling is no good - im surprised they don't line up - I used my original gasket and drew on the new plates!

So I can't get the bolts back through now even without the blanking plate, and I've managed to lose a bolt and the blanking plate and they haven't fell through and hit the floor :doh

It's pitch black, I'm wet and cold, and now I've got to ride to work in the morning, f**k this s**t :(

Mmm knowing how difficult these bolts are to get to I only slacked them off on Alex's motor then slid a metal shim up between the bolts and retightened, easy, Rick

You've not got a spare have you Rick I've dropped one and can't find it, the car is still in pieces atm.

I could not for the life of me get it back together :(

jeez mate sounds like a 'mare, had you been closer id have done it for you. Lob the ends of a plate, then you can do what rick did and slide it in - less fuss then trying to get bolts back through...

I've missed this thread, what a treat :lol
Banshee, when drilling holes for blanking plate or similar, I'd always open the hole out more than reqd for the bolt. That allows a bit of slop for the bolts to wander about in while you fumble about getting them back in the hole. Also, oil up the bolt before poking it in. Everyone loves loobe :D
You'll find plenty bolts you can undo from less critical parts of the truck to swap for now. Then pop in your bolt shop and replace
I'm going to dry my eyes now, enjoy :lamer:

yes I have spare banshee, but if I post today you might not get it till monday, a cut to length bit of threaded rod will do the same job, if you really want me to pop one in the post ring me, I will PM my number, Rick

If you want cheap nuts and bolts, coach bolts, wing nuts, washers etc, then go to your pick and mix at your local Wilkinsons.
You get a small or large bag, and what ever you can get in, and seal the top, you pay a fixed price.
Hint.. put the large items in first, tuck smaller items around them , add more, them finally fill with smaller nuts and bolts, and shake well. Pig to sort when you get home:lol

Caution.. these are not high tensile nuts and bolts, and any zinc plating lasts just about until you get them home. but you do get what you want, rather than go to screwfix, where you need to buy a hundred or so of each.
Another money saving tip brought to you by Rustic...lol:lol

The bolts are 8mm on my maverick the rear most bolt is 40mm the one towards the front of the engine is only 20mm. I just took them out to confirm

So I'm back in action :O

That was a horrible horrible job that I wouldn't wish on anyone else but it's done now so thank the Lord

Here's a clear pic that I managed to get when everything was out the way.

You can see the valve has had the vac pipe removed, follow the shiny end toward the flange and between it you'll see the 1mm profile of the blanking plate

Still not a happy bunny though because upon putting everything back together it turns out injector 2 and 3 both have leaky leak off pipes :(

Where's best to get a replacement kit from?
