and if you take out the bolts completely, mine were too different lengths so take note which one goes where :thumb2

Are you lot winding me up?

I still can't see what I'm supposed to be removing :bow

what cant you see?

so, look at the first bolt, the one that's easy to see - follow that along towards the brass wotsit, and you can see where the egr bolts onto the manifold...

you have two bolts to undo, then you can separate the egr from the exhaust manifold, just enough to remove the old gasket and insert the new one.....

try this, of course mine might be different being older :nenau

that's the underside - much harder to get to I think, I normally do the inlet side - not sure which is the best though so maybe someone can clarify?

You have that bolt but I don't :nenau

oh yeah I did notice that - maybe your egr has been stuck on or already blanked, or its just one bolt holding it on - that bolt is the one you cant see easily..

I thought everyone did it as in my pic :nenau but then again what do i know :lol

haha I dunno!! I have read that you can do it that way, especially if you are removing that section of the egr exhaust. I only say its harder because years ago when I tried this job, I was trying to do it your way and just couldn't do it, but doing the other side was much easier...

take more photos. We can see the brass egr part, but maybe something is different...?!

I'll do some more after work, hopefully I'll still have a bit of light, don't forget mine is a youngster being a 2004 Mk3 so may be subtle differences.

Where's the other location that Mav96 posted up where he took his photo

exactly the same place, his photo is taken from underneath so you are looking up at the egr where the exhaust goes into it.

I can't see either :S

So what now?

I'll have to have another look after work

ok here is a pic showing the EGR from above, my other pic is when i shrunk myself to get a shot from underneath showing the 2 bolts .:lol

if you cant see it then you probably dont have one ?

forgot to add that you cant really see the bolts doing it this way, you have to feel your way :lol:lol:lol:lol use a socket wrench with a 3" extension :thumbs

Ok Ok so you took that picture from underneath surely, is that side better accessible from the underside or through the wheel arch as previously suggested?

Right 100% haven't got one then!!!! That's why Sweety's has the bolt in there and mine doesn't

It's not over yet!!!!!

Hooray her cracked it

Hang Fire

It turns out I do have one I've just not been looking hard enough :doh

Here are 2 pics that confirm it, one from in engine bay from top, and 2nd from underneath the car through wheel arch

This is the wheel arch shot you can see in that dark recess the two flanges of different colours being held together by a shiny bolt

There is no way I can work in that little space, it's impossible any other suggestions on how I can reach the bolts differently.

you can do it mate, if you've got a socket set and extension bars of varying lengths its simple enough to do. If i can do it, you can.
