hey guys, quick question, im making myself an EGR blanking plate but I was wandering if 1mm Aluminium is suitable in the long term? I ask because im looking to order some ALu for another project so would be handy to use the off cuts....:thumbs

never mind, by all accounts 1mm aluminium will eventually burn through and it is advised to use 3mm+ steel, which is what I have anyway (its just difficult to cut!)

yeah I think my blades aren't up to it, was hoping to avoid buying new ones buy hey ho!

actually, turns out my Nieces chap can plasma cut me some so he is on the case. Will ask him to do a few ;)

on the case ;)

got an order for six (we don't know yet what he can get away with as he can only use scraps but he thinks because of the size, shouldn't be a problem!

As soon as I have them, ill fit one to mine to ensure its all ok then do a prize draw type thing. I know of two people that want them so they get first dibs.

oh - no cost just postage.

Deffo put me down for one of those, I should be on thee list as :thumb2

Are you sure the thickness is not up to it?

I believe rick used quite a thin metal on mine.

Has anyone seen a thin blanking plate burn through?:nenau

not sure Alex, ive read reports of this happening but not on the terrano. I believe if its aluminium tin can then it will burn through but if its steel, maybe not. Im not prepared to take the chance because I don't know enough like Rick does, neither would I want to check the blanking plate later to see if its burned through!

As for the ones im having made, might be tricky turn around within the week but ill ask Rich when he can get them done for....!!

Sweety, Banshee, you are the guys I was thinking of plus MAv96, once I have them I will PM you all for address's!

TBH depend on price for me as i've got some 1-1.5mm steel in the shed so could make one it's just the hassle of doing it

fair enough, im having a bunch made up regardless :thumbs

but if you mean how much for the blanking plate posted, to a select few itll be just the cost of postage. everything depends on how well they get cut and if they fit ok.

3mm bally hell what you making? really not necessary and OTT, and you may struggle to get it in as well, Ali will not burn through even if it was paper thin, what you end up with is an 18 inch long pipe joined to the exhaust that will be blanked = no exhaust gas flow =no heat other than ambient so very thin tin can is plenty good enough and cut with good pair scissors, Rick
