This seems to be the in rage to get rid of it, so I take it you need 2 plates and throw the valve away and I presume you block the hose as well then? :nenau

Do a search on here it's been done a lot. In essence just fit the plate between the EGR valve and the inlet manifold. Don't worry about getting rid of the vac pipes , just put a small ball bearing in the pipe so the actuator can't work either.
Job done :thumbs

EGR

OK, I watched the youtube video, very entertaining.
I reckon I can do that, just need to find a ball bearing for the vacccum pipe and I'll let you know how I get on.
Cheers everyone, much appreciate your assistance.

So what happend?

is it me? or does 96 seem early for a TDI? has it got a bonnet scoop?

nah it was the change over year so both td & tdi can be on a 96 or a 97, tho a 97 td is most likely a late registration like mine (reg in jan 97)

What does blanking it off achieve??? Surely it was put there for a reason

It basically sends filthy shit filled exhust gases through your inlet manifold, just remove it completly

If you want a reason for blanking or removing your EGR below are pics of my EGR from my Mondeo. Getting rid of all the soot improved my MPG by 5MPG.:D basically it was restricting the airflow into the engine. The car had done 85K miles. The air intake manifold was just as bad and this must have being getting sucked into the cylinders.

Not got one down the back, could it be some place else?

We'll I'm game for better performance and MPG but whats the best way of getting rid of the valve or blanking it off, I wasted 33 mins of my life last night watching Kamsins video on Youtube to find out it didn't even work lol

Mines a 1999 TDi, and I spent ages looking for mine, finally when I was over at Ricks, I asked him about it, and he was surprised to see than mine does not have it fitted... so yours maybe the same...
