My 3 litre puts out white smoke when started from cold and runs rough. Once it’s had a little blip of the loud pedal it clears it’s self soon enough which I was putting down to glow plugs. To be honest this has gone to the back of the queue though.

Mines the same Jim. Been like it since I've had it:augie

Oh so it is normal then :bow :bow :bow :bow

Mine does exactly the same and stinks when I get that white smoke :(

No smoke at all when engine is up to temp

To be fair Jim you've been spoilt with your project truck, that thing really sounded sweet at stratford, even from cold!! I thought mine started well but yours takes the trophy mate :thumbs

You should hear my 178,000 shit brick now :lol

FerdiNL sounds like it could be a normal 3 litre thing this starting problem.

Hope we didn’t take over your thread:thumbs

You didn't
Seems I'm not the only one having the starting issues making it a bit easier on it.

Last week I've tried connecting a starting cable to the bus bar and it seemed to start a little easier. Thinking about making something to connect on it and make it disconnect quite easy again.
This evening I've connected the glow plugs on the battery with the starting cables making everything spark :clap
We'll see what comes out...

Mines ok in the warmer weather, but when it's cold it runs rough for only a couple of seconds.

My swirl chamber in the tank froze into a solid block of veg, I had to get in the tank and get the chamber out to defrost it and the fuel lines before it would fire :doh

I've put in some extra diesel anti freeze to be sure and keep te misses happy who came up with the idea.
To keep trying I got myself a injector cleaner to see if that makes up something. Doesn't cost to much to try

Has anyone taken their injectors out?

Do the 3.0's have an electric circuit and sensor on injector 1?
If it does, it could be that sensor that's gone.

Will be getting the wrong reading and giving incorrect fuel on start-up. Glow plugs could be fine.

Just a thought.

Had a chat with a collegue and he told me his VW had the same a couple of years ago.
4 garages couldn't find the problem and number 5 changed the glow plugs and it was over.

The glow plugs I've put in are rather cheap so got myself a decent set now. Hopefully it comes tomorrow do we can check it.

Also having some contact with a scrapyard about a "new" propshaft for the front end, but the man thinks he has got gold in his hands...

Hi and welcome :thumb2
Does it start ok after the first start of the day? If so it could be diesel leaking back to the tank?

Thanks!
It depends, if I start it quit soon after the first start it is okay and if it takes a couple of hours it starts a little harder again.
This morning with around 8 degrees it started like it shoud so I think it has something to do with the glowplugs or a sensor that is doing weird stuff.

Got a little package today with 4 new glow plugs, better ones I installed a couple of weeks ago so I'm a bit curious what it will do after installing these.
