When I park the car for say more then six hours it cranks a while before actualy starting.
Starting is quit soon after parking it there is no problem.

Changed the glowplugs already since non were working.

I have only worked on one 3Ltr but I know of no pressure reducing valve, if there is one it will be in the pump to which you have no access, are you sure the glow plugs are getting power properly, to prove it make yourself a short jump lead direct from battery to glow plug bus bar, if it starts OK then relay contact problems or poor connections, Rick

Hmm found about the valve by searching for the ZD30.
Will give the jump lead a go

I'm interested in this too :thumb2

My 3.0 is very smokey and smelly until up to temperature :( I haven't changed the plugs on mine yet though

The only valve I can find relates to the much later COMMON RAIL engine 01 07 onwards, Rick

I'll whip them out sharpish using Barrbeasts write up in the downloads section

You do not have to remove them to test them, just remove the bus bar and run a wire from the battery to each one, with a tester on your battery set to dc volts as you apply the wire to each plug you will see a drop in battery volts, they should all give the same drop if not that one is faulty, Rick

I've put some direct power on the glow system this morning and it seemed to start a little better.
Does anybody have the partnumber of the little box wich connects on the bus bar? It looks like it had seen better days

Get me a pic mate and I should be able to get you one :thumb2

Here it is.
Could't find it on the interwebz in the bosses time.

It gets power from the loom, then goes via this box to the wire running through the bus bar giving power to the glow plugs.

It is only a connector, cut it out and get back to good wire if it has seen overheating damage and join the two together with a good insulated screw connector , we call them chock blocks here as they sort of resemble chocolate bars, you just need one block, Rick

Thanks!
I was thinking it is relay or something.

Coming out of a more modern Volvo before my Santa Fe you couldn't do things like this or the ecu will go mad so I'm a bit careful.

Well we got the Terrano back.
Passed the mot yesterday, they've changed the front discs and the low oil pressure switch next to the starter.
Oil light seems to be finally of after changing it.

Only they couldn't find the starting problem :nenau
This evening I've got the intercooler and everything off to check the glowplug etc and everything seems to be okay.
It glow, it gets fuel and air so it should do pop and bang...we'll see how it starts tomorrow morning when we leave for work.
The garage is contacting a diesel specialist to take a look if he can find something

If you find it difficult to start , connect a jump lead battery + to the glow plug buss bar, make sure it cannot touch earth, (put some rag round it etc, remember the engine shakes about a bit) Rick

Sounds like past experience that one Rick :lol

That's a solid shout though!!! Try what Rick has said. Have you tried testing the plugs with a set of jump leads yet to ensure that they glow? I've tested plugs with a multimeter before and all came back within tolerance however only 1 was working of the 4 :doh

As Rick has pointed out, it's only a connector, I'd leave it be until you've 100% determined it's not plugs or injector patterns

My 3 litre puts out white smoke when started from cold and runs rough. Once it’s had a little blip of the loud pedal it clears it’s self soon enough which I was putting down to glow plugs. To be honest this has gone to the back of the queue though.
