Any key mate with a transponder paired to that cars immobiliser :thumb2 so spare or main key will be fine

Cheers Banshee:thumbs the remote on the spare key no longer works after it went through the washing machine:doh but the transponder chip is still working thank god:augie

Cheers Clive:thumbs will have a look at those earths

Checked the voltage from the negative on the battery to engine whilst cranking the engine & got a reading of 0.14v & cleaned up the earths on the A pillers. Also took the door trims off to check the conections on the C/L motors & gave them a good squirt of WD40 to drive out any water that could have got into the plugs.
Tried what Banshee said about resetting the C/L & it's made no difference & thought I would try reprogramming the key again to see if that made any difference & things have went from bad to worse:doh:doh the remote on the key no longer works & you get a loud beep when you put the key into the ignition & doors are now locking as soon as the ignition is switched on & the C/L is now hit or miss when you lock the door with the key or move the drives door lock on the inside & I got locked in the truck for 5 mins as the bloody door wouldn't unlock:eek::doh

This sounds really frustrating but I love a problem like this....

So, you tried to reprogramme thee key and this caused the issue to get worse, right, so the next thing I would do is disconnect the central locking module behind the dashboard then see how the car reacts when you put the key in the ignition and fire it up.

This is what you're after

Well the remote key has started to work some of the time now:confused: where about's behind the dash is the central locking module located ? wondering if it's this module that's causing all of the problems:nenau

Easy to get to mate, just remove the lower section of dash underneath the steering wheel, it's on the left of the steering column :thumb2

Cheers mate will unplug the thing tomorrow & try to reprogram the key again even tho it's sort of working at the min. Got to get this sorted out asap as it driving me up the wall if not it could be time to just give up & take a mega lose money wise & part ex it in:(

You wont re-programme it with that unplugged mate, but try the motor with it unplugged and see if your doors still lock automatically, that isn't saying that if they don't lock that this box is the cause but it's a good start with the fault finding.

If that does stop the issue let me know and take a picture of your box, I'll see if I can post you one up from James that you can plug straight into your motor to see if that solves the issue however, maybe RayF can shed some light on the situation, I'm not sure if these will need any sort of coding to the ECU but i'm pretty sure I know of someone who has just straight swapped one

Go with a disconnect first and we'll go from there

We're here for you buddy, If it means a trip to your house so you don't PX it then so be it!!!!!!

Terrano to the end!!!!!

With the c/l control module unplugged I don't think the doors can lock:nenau worst thing with the later models is you can't lock/unlock the boot door with a key:doh the only other thing I can think of is poss a dodgy c/l motor causing it somehow which will be a pain in the butt to find out which one it is as i'll have to remove every door card & unplug each one in turn & have had to repair the passenger door card for the second time as the metal brackets on the door card for the white trim clips fell off yet again:doh just hoping the epoxy I used to bond them on with holds:augie

My Maverick had exactly the same issue as yours and it turned out to be a faulty central locking rod on the passengers side door, I bent it back into position as it had somehow got bent :nenau

Pleased you have said this as when the truck locked me in the lock/unlock handle would move to the unlock position but it didn't unlock the door it was as if it was fitted with dead locks that Vauxhall use but as far as I know Nissan hasn't used that type of system so think the drivers side door catch, locking rods & motor need a closer look at

you're more than welcome buddy :)

don't get beat up over this!!! You could have much worse issues with it, if things get real tough PM me and I'll give you a call.

Its easy giving up!!! But thats what losers do ;)

I suppose one thing is if/when I find out what the problem is if anyone else gets this problem the info will be here for them:augie

very occasionally my Mrs 98 motor locks the doors when starting, so rare that to find the problem is not easy, if it did it every time it would be better, but I think I would suspect the ignition switch first off, Rick

It happens every time Rick:doh now it was happening when cranking the engine but now it's happening when just turning the ignition to position II. Had a new ignition switch fitted about 20 months ago when I bought the truck as it wouldn't start if you slightly over turned the key. I disconnected the starter solenoid & turned the key fully & no door locking so think the switch is still ok & is why battery & positive battery clamp was replaced & a great deal of the earth have been cleaned up to nice shiny metal as it was looking as a voltage drop problem. I've been told off 2 old members of this site today they have had the same problem but no where near as much as i'm having but one was sure it was down to a faulty c/l motor as doors would sometimes lock if he hit a bump in the road which hasn't happened to me. Tried some googling on the topic & very little came up put there was a post on a Micra's owners club where someone had the same problem & it stopped after changing the c/l motor:rolleyes:

Since fitting a new ignition switch and changing the battery on mine it's not done it since.
Only way I can describe mine was when you have disconnected the battery and the first time you connect and start the engine it does it.

I was the first to suggest ignition barrel/switch back in post 15 but as Sweety said that he had had a new barrel fitted 19 months ago, you wouldn't expect it to be that :augie

Hence my other methodical routes I've gone down :thumb2

If your not sick of this thread I think you will soon be:lol:doh Switched the ignition on this morning & all the doors locked again:doh I stripped every door & unplugged the drivers door c/l motor, put the key into the ignition but didn't turn it & got a beep again from behind the dash, normally if you flick the switch on the passenger door to lock it'll lock all of the doors like the drivers side but nothing happened:confused: anyway plugged the drivers motor back in then unplugged the wires from the drivers door lock & the c/l went mad locking & unlocking a couple of times so plugged that back in & switched on the ignition & the doors didn't lock so started it up & again the doors didn't lock. I went around unplugging each door c/l motor & putting the ignition on/starting up & it became hit or miss if the doors locked but then it seemed to stop. Things at the min seem to have changed if you lock/unlock the doors with the drivers switch, the door switch next to the window switches or with the remote you can do it 5 times then the c/l stops working fully & you have to press the unlock button on the key a couple of times & press the lock/unlock button next to the other switches a couple of times before the c/l starts working again. I'm not sure if this is now pointing to a faulty driver c/l motor or the main control unit or even something to do with the NATs:nenau

there is some sort of timer on the central locking that inhibits use if operated more than a few times constantly, think it is to stop them overheating, more than that I can only suggest bad earths or other connections, Rick

Have to ask... was the ignition barrel new as in brand new, or a replacement secondhand?

The ignition switch was brand new from what I know & when I had my head under the dash this afternoon the switch looked super shiny as a new one would look:thumbs sadly couldn't find the the c/l module at all near the steering column look up behind the dash with a torch as I couldn't be bothered to stip the lower dash off as I was getting cold & tired:doh wonder if Nissan have moved it:augie
