all i saw was pretty lines and some maths don't make much sense to me tbh lol

all i want to do it turn the cb on and put aerial on roof and then speak or listen, and i wont ever use it other than for green lanning or trips out as a group.

so i can by a computer plug it in and use it properly

i can even by a cd player plug it in and use it

and i can buy a car tv plug it in and use

but i cant with a cb radio, takes the piss that lmao

It is I who mentioned 706g and thanks fez for the compliments, 857,ft1000mp, are all yeasu, so whats the thing with yeasu then, If you want a real radio that works on 11 mtrs then look at the ELECRAFT K2, only 15 / 20WATTS out but the recieve is outstanding and better than a 1000mp and alot of commercial radios, infact the brother to this the K3 is rated as having the best reciever in the business, Ah and yes I do own a K2 and yes I did build it myself, BUT ask me to change a headlight bulb on the Maverick and I go into a mode thats close to someone having a epileptic fit, so there you have it.
:naughty :naughty :naughty :naughty 1st Elecraft k2, 2nd Icom 706mk2g and then in 3rd place (only for nostalgia purposes ) Stag357 cb with tweaked chip and 30 watts bareback, :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

I own a mkII, Works very well on HF. I Don't use it on 2m.

Very versatile, Base or mobile. Although it draws loads when turned off so you can't keep it connected to power when it's not used.

I've owned other radios but this is the radio I will never sell.

SDR is the future though. :augie :D

Fez mate, I have the 706 permanent in the mav and its direct wired 24/7 and I aint had any trouble at all its brilliant, The 857 is good BUT to be honest the 706 just nips the tape for me as the menus and controls are so easy to use and its built to last, as for SDR no thank you, I like a real radio in front of me, thats why I went and got the k2 kit, does give you a buzz when you make your first contact, and never a dull moment here as its always the talking point of most ragchews, mainly due to peoples thoughts and a buzz of questions on "hows it for this and that etc etc

basically , what i was trying to say ( and prove ) is that your swr needs to be checked to prevent damage to your radio ... your set up will not be working efficiently if the swr is too high

silly question

will a cb radio defined as a uk cb
a - work in europe
b - legal in europe

thanks in advance

paulp

it will work , but you probably wont hear anyone ..... for europe you need a multistandard cb ..... available fairly cheap ..... one example is the tti 660 ... about £55

different european countries have different laws regarding transmit power and frequencies , a multistandard one like the one i mentioned would be legal to operate in most european countries

All I can tell you all about SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) is if it is high, and you transmit for a good while your output transistors get very hot and run a high risk of going pop, plus the fact that whatever power you are putting out, lots is just coming straight back, so reducing range, Rick
