are their any real guidance when buying a second hand cheap and cheerful cb

just want it for the laning and cant see it being in permanently unless that makes it easier

where is the best place to install one ?

also would prefer a neat little unit and not one that looks like it was from ww1 lol

briggie is your man for cb advice :thumbs
hang around and i'm sure he will be along soon

ID STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST BUYING A SECOND HAND CB , AS THERE ARE FAR TOO MANY " SCREWDRIVER EXPERTS " , WHO INSIST ON TRYING TO TWIDDLE INSIDE THE SET TO IMPROVE POWER ETC AND END UP PUTTING IT OFF FREQUENCY AMONGST OTHER THINGS .

A DECENT CB IS THE TTI 660 . IT COVERS ALL EUROPEAN BANDS AND IS A NICE CHEAP GOOD LOOKING RADIO .

AS FOR WHERE TO FIT IT , THAT REALLY IS UP TO YOU , IT DEPENDS IF YOU INTEND TO LEAVE IT IN THE VEHICLE ALL THE TIME , OR INTEND TO REMOVE IT AT NIGHT FOR EXAMPLE ... YOU WILL NEED ACCESS TO A POWER POINT (12V) AND A WAY OF GETTING THE AERIAL COAX INTO THE CAR ( SUNROOF IS ONE OPTION ) ...PLEASE DONT HESITATE TO ASK IF YOU NEED ANY FURTHER ADVICE .

THIS IS THE TTI 660

how do you mean get into it lol

are the walkie talkie type ones ok ? also if using a cb radio does this not come under a traffic violation like using a mobile ??

basically yes , if you talk on a cb while driving , i would guess you are comitting a traffic offence , as for walkie talkies , they have their uses in particular situations ..as for " getting into it " ... its like anything else , you can spend as much as you want and get biggerabout , better stuff etc , its all limits and what you want to use it for

If your friends talk on them or into "ham".?

are the walkie talkie type ones ok ?

There fine if there decent 1's that can operate on the same frequency as 1 of the CB channels & for the money they cost ya better off with a CB :thumbs

Pass on that :nenau "daved" or somebody more clued up on legal stuff could answer that but i would guess YES but we're off road driving under 10 mph :thumbs

this is one of the hand held ones i have found
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CB-RADIO-MULT...nsumerElectronics_SpecialistRadioEquipment_SM

i dont have freinds that use ham or cb's so it will just be for the lanning side of things

i am guessing with all these i need a antenna and what not

I'd go for the 1st as its the same as mine & i can vouch for that 1 :thumbs

& yes you would only need an ariel to go with it :thumbs

From £5 - £30
Mine was a tenner :D

is their such a thing as a quick detachable aerial ie all wires stay in place but the mount comes off ??

ah guess to late, was going to suggest 4x4.cb.com
we did a club bulk buy few years back.

mines a midland 98 uk and euro fm set, neat kit with
esp electronic squelch p...,

just mounted mine in top of dash as troll has room for
adouble din ice, but with regular ice theres a cubby
hole i fastened it into.

took power from live feed to stereo, handy as dont
loose channel when turn ignition off and on.

also found in stereo feeds were little 'blobs' which
werent fuses, suspect supressors which maybe why
you get window motor noise. can get sup's at map's
too.
my aerial cable goes down back of dash then under
edge of middle console the onto magmount which
can store in boot and chuck on roof as required.

in my terrano i used to mount it loose in little cubby
next to ciggy lighter, though some cars have cassette??
storage there, usually redundant once using cds or
mp3 players etc. or could sit in cubby between seats.

10.10 good buddy., good pix btw on trip report.

well time got short and had to look localy so ended up at maplin's and got these 2

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=45060

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29678

went on the derby day and it seemed to work fine altho dont understand why the window motors made it squark

price wise done ok there, atleast with maplin theres plenty about,
sure wont need but keep receipt with rig then any issue on travels
bobs yer uncle.

def not worth buying s/h at those prices.

you were coming thru loud and proud yesterday...

could the noise be due to having it attached to the ciggy lighter ?
