Nope, leave it in the thread where it started :thumbs

i have been speaking to a diesel engineer and basicly he said prolong use of straight sunflower oil or similar can cause engine failure, especially on long runs and high temperatures, because the oil will not lubricate the pump sufficiently, he has known injection pumps to disintegrate on test beds due to insufficient lubrication, and if you want to run svo it is advisable to dilute it with diesel. :thumbs

No problems at all with that :thumb2 however others will tell you the opposite ie with good housekeeping and using a quality engine lube (obviously doesnt affect the pump) you will not experience much if any extraordinary wear :thumb2

Fair do's unlubed pumps will fail. Has he published the results of his tests with svo ? if so could you post the link, cheers :thumb2

Point still remains that svo didnt knacker his engine as stated :nenau

Thank-you as it buggered up the filter housing, pump & plugs

the guy in question retired a few years ago, but he did say that the company tried several types of oils and the best type was rapeseed oil mixed at 70% and 30% diesel, engine tested for and run for 1000 hrs at variable revs and no problems recorded.:thumbs

daved, do you run your Chrysler Jeep on bio fuel?, we have just bought the voyager 2.8 td and was advised not to run it on bio. :nenau

good as :thumb2

a friend of mine ran a pug on 100% svo for nearly two years. He had no major component failure (routine maintenance only) before it was sold on, I seem to recall that was over 25 000 miles. it was his good experience that firmed up my decision try it out.

one thing he had extra was the preheater.

he used the same sunflower/svo i used from makro because its the cheapest available to us, joe public :thumb2

It would seem experience on this as a fuel is as split as those who think mondeos are crap and those who are onto their fifth one plus.

ill tell you what chaps and chapets im sticking to diesel and when the day comes i cant aford to run itas its ment to ill sell the cant and buy something i can.... bmx maybe:augie

Still can't see where i said it killed the engine :nenau

Killed Dirty Frog was an expression...

"pm" was treated with the contempt it deserved...

I have been told to keep the issue in the thread & not to pm or start a new thread so that is what I've done...

Chrysler / merc engines seem to be split on this one.

Mines the 2.7crd merc and opinion is split. I must say no one id rate as an "expert" has said dont and I havent met anyone who has screwed up their engine using it................as far as theyre aware

If you search on line the majority of opinion seems to be (for the 2.7) no problem both here and throughout europe.

Ive just seen that guy on ebay selling it i am tempted but nervous :)

so far no i havent simply because theres no suppliers on the doorstep.

how about you?

aww come on, youre just being awkward now, childish in in fact.

Lets explain............you said it had killed your car. Now I may be wrong in the presumption you put it in the fuel tank. Next thing your saying you will only ever use diesel. the engine wouldnt start.

You dont have to be a rocket scientist to reach a conclusion. stop back pedaling.

You are doing exactly what I politely suggested you didnt by inferring the content of the pm was not appropriate and using the word "contempt"

that message was a civil open offer and explanation of where to go with this. I am completely happy for it to be published in the public forum to prove that. there was nothing rude or inappropriate in it.

none accused him of lying.......just being wrong.

anyway.........good point
