Right guys, sorry about the wait but I was knackered after the train journey, and then looked over/test drove the beast, and then had a problem with my card not paying out (it was a security thing, they didn't know I was me!)

It is far from perfect, it smells of old dog and looks like its been chewed up and puked out on the inside.. The stereo is from the early 80's. The drivers seat needs an upholstery rebuild. There is a slight tracking problem (uneven tyre wear - but I'm not fussed about as it'll have a lot of mods in that area anyway and I'll do the tracking when that's done.) I had a good look around that 'reversing floodlight's' mounting on the back door, and there is zero corrosion, I had a look inside and there are no signs of water ingress. I couldn't spot any oily patches or drips from the oily thing in the front.. The embarrassing picture on the locking spare wheel cover (it even came with a second spare wheel cover in the boot!) is just a sticker which will be getting removed soon!

But It pulls well, changes through all the gears smoothly, high/low range, diffs all lock/unlock, all the switches and buttons do all the things the switches and buttons are supposed to do, and it made it all the way back home at 0415 this morning, and is now parked in front of the house! :D

I'll take some new photos when I wake up some time later this evening!! Or more probably tomorrow or something!

I cant wait to start ripping out all that smelly carpet and giving it a good clean - I may even replace it, I'll look into that..

Anyway my eyes feel like they are full of sand..
Brian :)

Ooh.. There's a P.S. It sits happily at 85 on the motorway!! And about half a tank from Rochdale to the Isle of Wight.

Well done Brian.
Just a quick tip. You can remove the carpet set easily enough, so try shampoo & jetwashing it and leave it to dry before re-installing.
Patrol carpets are rare and expensive if you had to replace them.
New sets would have to come from Australia.
D

I was thinking of just getting some car type carpet and cutting it to size or something. Did you not read the title to this thread? lol

Everythings ok now, I'm back in the mud!

Short video to follow of pushing through and old track - it's rendering now and I'll have it uploaded within the hour..

Just been testing the drivetrain in all settings in their proper environment and everything's working well. I have had a good poke around and found a whole bunch of old cassette tapes - which went smartly into the bin!

Does anyone have experience of this type of dashboard? And is it possible to slice that plastic bit out to enable fitment of a double din head unit (Giggity!)

Brian :)

Yes is the short answer, you'll probably find it's double din behind that anyway. You could also just look for one from a Y61 that had the double din cassette/cd multichanger fitted (like mine did) as they didn't have the plastic bit running between :thumb2

They also didn't have the switch blanks on the lefthand side.

Nice bit of land to roam around there! :D

I take it you're happy so far?

I'll be happier after a few paydays and I'm buying bits and bobs! Primarily a 2" lift, Ironman front winchmount, big knobbly tyres etc... But first something a bit more modern than that ancient cassette player!!

P.S. I've already scratched the paintwork down the drivers side :D

I don't suppose you have the part number for that bit of the dash would you please?

I'm going to see how much Nissan will charge for a black plastic one. Shouldnt be too much.. Thanks Barrbeast :)

 Loving your optimism Brian :lol

Tbh I'd just be taking the Dremel to that horizontal section myself :nenau

Your new head unit would most likely come with a double din bezel surround Brian.
Jay's did if I'm not mistaken. Hth.

Well, this week I have mostly been doing this...

After a few hours of scrubbing I have removed the last 15 years of previous owners hair grease and fart residue! I also polished the steering wheel - bit of a mistake as now its so nonstick I could sell it to the makers of Teflon!

There is still a bit of grime there, but it smells nice now!

I also discovered that the rubber bung thingys at the top of the radiator mount were missing, so I have ordered some more from Nissan but in the meantime I have done a wee bodge.. (Thread title!) The cable ties are just pulling the radiator to its correct position and no more, allowing it to move about as it would if the rubber bungs were there.

I have also added some custom scrapes down the sides, for added off road/green lane cred!

And I made a start on the HORRIBLE picture on the spare wheel cover..

I have also ordered a bunch of stuff - only accessories at the moment, but I'll post it when it all arrives in a week or so.

Anyway, off to locate all my extension leads and then its hoover time... Oh joy.

Stay tuned, more to come next week!!
Brian :)
