I have a couple of Ebay auctions on the go at the moment, all on collection only.
Woke up this morning to a message stating that one item had sold at the BIN price.
It all then started to look a bit dodgy. The bid itself came from a real account with good feedback, but they were in the States. Not looking good for a collection only auction.
The correspondence looked a bit iffy, one email from Ebay looked fine but the email from the buyer didn't go through the usual routes and didn't appear in my Ebay messages.
The delivery address looked a bit iffy too.
Sure enough I get the email from Ebay stating that it was an erroneous bid and was now being withdrawn while Ebay investigate.

What do the perpetrators hope to gain? Apart from time wasting and peeing people off. :hmh

I had a situation last year with a petrol mower I was selling on eBay, clearly stated "Collect Only"' It sold for a good price and they paid promptly but 5 mins later I got a message to say "Can you deliver".
So,they have paid no postage/delivery charge and they want me to deliver to Nottingham (from Bristol) Numpties!

I got a message to say "Can you deliver".
Clearly the answer is NO! I'd add that I'm perfectly happy for them to arrange their own courier to collect it.
Muppets of the highest order.

I always write the whole lot down, stating someone can organise courier costs and labels wrapping ect once money is cleared :naughty

Im rapidly going off ebay cos of all the idiots on there. Never sold anything and to be honest don't know if I would really want to.

We have sold and bought loads of items, well over a thousand now and most go swimmingly. There have been a few knobs to deal with over the years, but ebay are great and so is paypal.:thumb2

I have to agree... we have been messed around by a couple of buyers, and had to get Ebay involved in one, where we were refunded our listing fee. As far as buying, again a couple of issues with sellers, but in all cases, it has been sorted out, either by the seller, or Paypal.

Recently, a company sent us the wrong tem, we emailed them straight away, and not only did they tell us to keep the wrong one, but also sent the correct item the next day.

I have no issue with Ebay, it's the muppets that simply want to waste other people's time that I can't work out. Do they not have proper hobbies?

I sometimes bid on items for that say collection only (no description about ok to use own courier) and if I win just say I want to arrange my own courier. Never had any problems to date, But the buyer has the power over sellers.

Maybe I'm one of those people, but you got to chance it for the bargains!

have to say I have had no problems, had one order delivered damaged, contacted the supplier and he arranged collection and refund was made once he had received the goods back, Rick

It's all becoming a bit clearer now. The delivery address has changed and the scam has become clearer.
Ebay have been most helpful again.

The postal address has now changed from a genuine account in the USA to an address in Nigeria.
The original buyer has had their account compromised and either their email too, or the scammer has opened an email in the account holder's name.
This morning there are three emails from "Ebay" and the buyer, non of which appear in my messages file in Ebay.
It has now become the traditional Nigerian scam.
I have now asked the scammer to pay $25,000 dollars and an additional $5,000 for my courier who, as the item is now in transit, will be expecting payment wether the item is accepted or not.
The scammer now owes me $5,000 whatever. Winner!

Selling Cost and PayPal fees

I agree except I resent that as a seller you end up paying two lots of fees one for the sale and again the deduction of fees by PayPal. Ok now they are two seperate Companies so can justify it more but that is only in the last couple of months.

Yeah, that is a bit of a pee take, but look at how large a selling audience you get with ebay :nenau

If an item says collection only, I will always message to see if they would post (at my expense) or accept my own courier, I think it's nice to ask and not assume people will want to mess around with couriers.

A seller has quite a lot of protection with ebay, if buyers mess me around, I report them and you can block muppets from bidding on your items.

I agree, but what is worse is that they take a fee on the POSTAGE AND PACKING costs, so they even take a cut of something that they have done no work towards.

Tell me that ain't the p!ss take of the century?

:(

no the piss take of the century is non UK residents taking out the EHIC card allowing them to claim full medical costs against the NHS even though they have never set foot on UK soil, and our government is allowing it to happen, Rick

Easy tiger, watch your blood pressure!

The final scammer has been and gone.
He offers to buy the camera and gives it a good look over and everything seems good. He then puts an SD card into the second slot, this camera has SD & CF slots, and nothing. The camera doesn't recognise the card and he walks away from the sale.
That's odd, I say.
Anyway, he gets back in touch to say that he can offer 25% of the original price as a spares or repair camera.
On your bike, I say.

Camera shops says nowt wrong with it.
Grrr!
