That's how I do things with him, if he's interested I indulge him if not I leave it. He was painting grease on spare wheel carrier underneath the csravan a while back, I'm too fat to get under :doh but he was loving it, and he absolutely loves my milwaukee impact driver, I bought him a cheap one to use but he's not daft and still nicks mine :lol

The lad is learning quick already, Rick

Long day at the mill so only got a few hours on the Pearl tonight.
However, we did get cracking on the O/S rear arch extension :D

A bit of grinding and Mr Hammer to fair the arch

Bribe the boy with Bud and away we go , again

Seamed up a treat and ready for my trimming action.

A quick peek at his weld porn :naughty It wont be there long as I'll be filling it all over !

I'm using a long bit of perspex to get a nice line to trim back to. I just need 30 mm to keep my tread legal :)

"Cut along dotted line " :lol

Then I get the nearly there shape. From here it's flap disc back to a line my eye likes

Difficult to get you guys the perspective on camera but I like it.

When it's all filled in it'll look like the front :clap

Pretty much there now.

Also started the hi-lift jacking points on the rock sliders. Will be welding in some 35mm tube to the holes soon, ish

Started the custom fuel tank drawings too. Will be doing templates for your delectation next :beer

Awesome mate, I'm proper jealous of rocksliders with hi-lift points, its a shame the polo turned into an old fester tho :lol

Fester is worth more though :D 30k miles. Full boy rebuild . Due for spray job ASAP after the truck is done.
He's doing an airbag suspension mod on one Polo and upgrade brakes on the other one :naughty
All go

Departure angle is looking good :D got to be about 60 degrees I reckon :clap

Great job Pete:thumbs

Give your youngun a talking at tho mate, bare arms are no good for welding mate. All that UV is no good for him. Last week my lad was wearing ripped jeans and ended up with a burnt knee:doh

Thank you Jim, I told him. He said sorry :thumbs
To be fair he's pretty good at elf n safety stuff, infact far better than me :augie
So last few days have been busy at work and away with family so not got much done worthy of pics.
Continued under the front end cleaning, painting and generally getting ready to refit the diff etc.
Got some filler work started at back end . Some of it needed from when I parked it on it's side :lol

Old fuel filler now gone

Trusty spoon for the radius :D

Picking out low points

Getting close now and will do a light spray over next to see better what needs work still.

N/S rear arch tomorrow we hope .

N/s rear copped it tonight :thumb2 Damn it was hot but no time to waste .
I continued my way through another tub of filler on O/s rear an d N/s front.

Last look at the weld porn before filler :sly

Need to refit the bumper end to finish the trimming but we're getting there :clap

Still working on o/s rear . Once you pop you can't stop :augie

n/s front at spoon stage

Other work tonight included panhard rod adjustment. More under belly clean up and another good dollop of underseal action. It's so much easier to apply in 30 degrees

Just an awesome shape. Someone round here has got a pickup version, don't know if they did them from factory or not but it looks fantastic. I'll try n get a pic of the barbers car in the next town, you'll either love it or hate it, or somewhere inbetween maybe :D

Hiya mate, those arches are proper, what size spoon again? :lol

This is the barbers car near me as said above

On and on and on and oh blimey nearly flippin' there :D
So tedious but look it, I pretty much have a clean botty
All rust cured and seam sealed now. Underseal agogo next :clap

looking significantly less crusty now!!!

That welding is really nice, and something I would love to be able to do. I have got a welder, but it's a case of 'got the gear, but no idea' !!

Did your son do an apprenticeship to learn to weld?

He started off with me under the Black Pearl way back when it was on the road. Then soon came to like welding. Especially handy as mine is pretty agricultural :augie
He's just about to finish his mechanic's apprenticeship any week now. he's "mastered" in fabrication though :lol
pretty much as soon as he qualifies he's going on an intensive TIG course then off on his own :)

Hands on learning. Always the most effective.

One thing is for sure with that kind of skill he will always be able to find work and earn money.

I must find time to dabble in this again, although I understand that car body work can be the most challenging to do.

Great work, all coming together very well.. I envy the welding at waist height on the ramp, i hate driveway welding..

That ramp is the best thing I bought for the boy :lol
I reckon it's paid for itself already just in the cost of gas I've saved. :thumbs
