The welding on that exhaust is terrific Pete, I really want to learn how to weld, I need to find someone local that could teach me

I'll pass on your praise to the boy 😊 My welding is far more utilitarian 😏

Somebling happened ;)

To break up the tedium of cleaning the old girl's nether regions , I fitted some bling :D AND IT@S NOT BLACK  well a bit of it is :lol
As I'll be only using full harness from now on the old seat belts are out. Same thought process led me to bin the air bag and stock steering wheel. More weight saving too I reckon :thumbs

Red matches the hydraulic h/brake lever :D
Saved more weight by binning all manner of metal crud from under the truck; heat shields, h/brake bkts, etc old steering wheels :lol

Job list for the week ! pmsl , well it's a list anyway.

Meanwhile back under the bling , things are shaping up. Last bit of clean up and rust treatment tomorrow , I hope :doh

Onwards

Looking swish mate, I want to come down and check it out.

Are you working on it this weekend?

Well fill my flaps :D
More and more under body prep  but it's very nice knowing there are NO HOLES anywhere :thumbs
Anyway to relieve the tedium a little creative mod happened.
Fuel filler flaps are so last year :naughty
It's got to go so I can extend the rear arches like I did at the front :thumbs
So boy to the welder

Then a bit of a grind back on me flap

Old screw holes welded up and a bit of paint before we fill my flaps

There you go , no more flaps :sly

Now I can do the arch extension and create a nice flare :splif
Onwards :augie

N/S wing got the steel arch extension treatment tonight :D Been on the list for ages and took a while to try and copy the O/S shape.
Which basically looks like this :)

Tacking on the steel extension.

Then the boy did his magic :sly

Top job as usual :clap
Profile here showing pre cut size. It'll be trimmed back a lot yet.

That's the way to do it

We'll be on the rears tomorrow :thumbs

Honestly impressed with his welding Pete what a lad!!!!! I want something like that eventually

Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Full marks plus to your lad on his welding, mine used to look like that, but now not so good due to eyes not working so well and jerky hands, price of getting older, Rick

He started his welding on this very truck about 7 years back I think :nenau
On the wing today he spotted one of the first body mounts he tackled. Before I'd finished grinding the prep on the wing job, he'd decided it was no good
So next the old fix was out and new metal back in again again :D

Just up behind the rock sliders

Onwards

Question; my son is six, is it too early to buy him a welder :D

Very definitely not, get him one now, I turned a taper on a lathe when I was 4, used my dads band saw and bench saw as well, under instruction of course, but no you cannot start too early if the lad is interested, but only if so, you must not force him, as soon as I got to secondary school where they had a metal workshop I was in there bunking off other lessons and arc and gas welding galore, Rick

That's how I do things with him, if he's interested I indulge him if not I leave it. He was painting grease on spare wheel carrier underneath the csravan a while back, I'm too fat to get under :doh but he was loving it, and he absolutely loves my milwaukee impact driver, I bought him a cheap one to use but he's not daft and still nicks mine :lol
