Really nice truck Zac, well done mate....and a 3.0 ltr.......:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

First two jobs...

First job I'm going to tackle is the one I reckon my Grandad will notice first, the faded out letters on the stereo, from looking around the web it seems the only way to resolve this one is to swap the LCD but to be honest I'd be better off replacing like for like when one becomes available with a code

Secondly I'm going to pop 2 new bulbs in the Odometer as one is dead, thankfully the solder joint repair has already been carried out on this set of clocks as per an invoice I have from Nissan in the folder, digits are nice and bright on this one

Sidesteps

I whipped the sidesteps off tonight, I decided I'd remove the sidesteps first from the brackets, the 12mm nuts just spun and spun, I then realised that I could simply lift off the sidesteps as the metal had worn through :doh

I've also removed the brackets from the chassis in order to clean them up, paint them and then replace the bolts, typically I have managed to remove all but 2 successfully, the rest are going to have to be drilled out of the chassis and then I'll have to use my stud extraction kit with hopefully the same amount of success as I had with the manifold stud in the Cavalier I did recently :(

The question I have is, should I drill all the way through the steps and get some longer bolts for strength? I'm worried if I do that, when I tighten the nuts the steps will buckle :nenau

Or should I opt for some large repair washers and repair from underneath?

I grabbed the nuts and bolts today and carried on with the sidesteps when I got home.

I decided I was going straight through to the other side of the steps and gave them a bit of a clean up

I'm going to get some caps and glue them on the bolt heads in hope it makes it look a bit smarter but in my Grandads case I can't see him really being bothered by stuff like this he's significantly less anal than me. All he will be interested in is the fact my nan will be able to get in and out without hurting herself

They have to be repaired as unlike me, my Granddad doesn't think they are gay and my Nan will rely on them to get in and out of the truck.

I'll get underneath and get them looked at and repaired over Xmas, I need to leave it alone though for now as I need to get my truck back on the road

We have some of those Aldi plastic folding step as the bars on the Jeep are too close to the sills for Mother -in-Law !

Good shout!!! I have to take a step ladder out with me when taking my nan places, people have a right laugh.

If you look on the forum hard enough there is a picture somewhere

LOL....... I have a much loved, elderly cousin, who has to be lifted into my Terry.....she is about 4' nothing and light as a feather.......thankfully....as she can barely reach the side steps, let alone the seat.... :nenau

Got a few more jobs done tonight.

Went to collect the Odometer bulbs this afternoon on my lunch. Nissan man spotted me coming across the car park and had them ready at the desk before I even walked in, top service.

Here's a before and after;

20161230_200541.jpg

Nice new set of bulbs all around
20170112_192642.jpg

The sidesteps have been finished off now and are rock solid, no rattles or vibrations anymore at different revs, I've drilled through and just capped the bolt heads with plastic caps, looks good, I'll get some pics in the light tomorrow.

Upon collecting my new clutch pedal for my car, I noticed that the guy I brought them from also had a set of "Ford" roof bars leaning up against the wall, having just remove Grandads Frankenstein ones I thought why not treat it to a set as it was looking a bit bare, freshened them up and fitted them last night, lockable with keys too, same roof bars as on mine. I'll get pics of those in the light too.

Lastly, a while ago I travelled to Norwich to collect a load of black interior trim parts up dirt cheap that had been removed from a 2004 SWB SVE van from new. I put all the new bits into my Terrano except for the door cards. Mine were in good enough condition and I couldn't/ still can't warrant the swap so they have been stored in the garage in the rafters. These are SVE door cards and have the leather trim and are immaculate in terms of marks or scratches as were brand new and removed.

The two in Grandads are knackered, both armrests have damage to them and have been tackily covered up with strips of adhesive carbon fibre wrap and the passengers side door pocket rattles like hell!!!!

Rather than those door cards go to waste I'll donate them to the cause and I've fitted them into the car, again pics tomorrow and I didn't even clean them, the dust on them compared to the rest of the recently valeted truck is hilarious :lol

Nissan will only sell you a bag of 10 and wont break the bag as it is an order in part, the part number is on the bag.

I have used 3 and have 7 left, I'll happily sell you a few mate

Also just made this as a sticky too :naughty

Cheers mate could you let me know how much you would like for 3. Id love to be able to see my mileage again.

So we've sold the BMW once on eBay and should have had it gone last Saturday but the guy that won the auction decided to stop responding to my messages 3 days before coming :doh

Until it's gone the 3 litre is just sitting pretty on my drive, I turn it over every few days just to make sure all is well.

A few jobs have been completed now;

I've secured the sidesteps back to the car having drilled straight through them and bolting them again capping them off to make it look a bit better, they are solid as a rock now :thumb2

I removed the "Frankenstein" roof bars :lol They were awful, and replaced with a set of Ford ones same as mine that I got at a lovely price :thumb2 Smartened them up again as they had gone a bit faded with age

20170114_134310.jpg

I've also replaced both door cards too, when I peeled the carbon fibre stickers off the drivers it revealed a very unsightly tear and the passengers one rattled at idle it just wouldn't do!!!!

I've left the dust on for comedy effect :lol Grandad probably wont see the funny side but they just need a wipe with some interior wipes, it's because they've been exposed in storage in the garage

I bottled it, door cards cleaned as I'm dropping it off tomorrow night :clap

Hope he likes it :bow

I'm sure he will but probably not as much as you:lol
When he wants rid, I bet I know where it'll end up:naughty

I've told him if he wants rid that I want first refusal :lol Driving it into work this morning was heavenly!!! It's so much more quieter and refined than the 2.7 with plenty of spare horses when you push the pedal

I've seen a massive difference in fuel economy too, it "sips" the juice in comparison to Terrance

Hopefully he'll love it.
Swings and roundabouts. You'll get places in yours you couldn't in grandads. Unless you started modifying, then the refineness and economy slowly slips away:cool:
