you want the QD32 alternator they are interchangable..if it has a vacuum pump on (it shouldn't do) just undo the three bolts and remove the drive sproket etc and put the housing back on to trap the bearing back in place.

and just to cofirm... they are all the same. even the starter motors etc as well.

Will I need to mounts from the engine as well or can I use the existing mounts? Also will the belt be the same size

My 1995 2.7 td turbo r3mR had a 110 amp alterator as standard equipment you might find one in a breakers yard.

These seem harder to find than Elgrands :(

This is not seeming as simple as it first looked. Still very interested to find the answer though :thumb2

That's the thing with me though mate, i fully intend to see this through to the end :thumb2 I always do!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've spent ages going through various forum threads & i'm fooked if i can find it...
I'm beginning to think I might of seen it done on you tube or 1 of the european forums :nenau

If you do not have AC you can mount another alternator where the compressor would go and just link the two alternators together, no problem, Rick

& that would give you 140 amp :clap :thumbs

not so, we did it all the time on the boat, although they are alternators producing AC current each alternator converts to DC so it just gives you more amps available, there is no sync involved as would be the case with AC, Rick

Well i'm watching this thread with a great deal of interest as at some stage i'm prob going to need a more powerful alternator or double them up some how & a second battery poss even a third:augie

Good man:thumbs:thumbs it'll come down to how far I take my audio system told my wife it'll be just a small set up this time but i'm starting to get a big itch for a 140+db system & that will draw a lot of current:augie

word of warning here, you can have as many bats as you like but they all need to be the same Ah and all new at the same time and an isolation switch between them all, one bad bat will F them all if left connected, Rick

There is so much I don't understand about electrics  :doh

I like that idea Rick, I could use the other alt for my leisure set up
Would that be practical?
Anyone got any pictures?

yep perfect set up with two completely independent systems, Rick

James is away at the moment on holiday with the caravan, his Navara broke down 2 minutes down the road so he ended up using a family members Ssangyong Rexton lol

As soon as he is back I'll drop by the farm and grab another alternator and wiring, I'll take some shots in the engine bay tonight of where Rick is on about and upload them

Yes Rick they have to be isolated from the main system & powered from a split charging circuit, the amps run off the extra batteries & not the cars battery. Time will tell as not sure how much boot space i'm going to have to keep clear yet once we get a caravan but at the min I need every inch of the boot when we go camping in the tent (it's a big tent:lol) but ideally i'd like 4x12" or 4x15" subs in the boot & around 2500-3000w RMS of power to power all of the speakers:D would have to fit +3" springs to cope with the weight & would prob only gain an inch lift:lol
