    Suzuki Grand Vitara

A friend has a slightly earlier GV. It's had a slight suspension lift but hasn't managed to get stuck anywhere my Maverick will go. Does lack a LSD though.

    Knocking When in 4x4

There are warnings above that you SHOULDN'T be trying to drive on tarmac in four-wheel drive. The transmission really doesn't like it, especially when on full lock.

    The great INSURANCE CON

They will demand that the car is taken to an assessor but I've demanded that the car goes to my house and the assessor comes there. It was a non-fault accident in my case so I called the shots. It certainly seems that insurance is a great way to make money for insurance companies, bodyshops and...

    Thermostat

I don't know the diesel set-up, so don't know if there are bleed points but one effective way to do it is to 'burp' all of the hoses. Squeeze them and keep the coolant level topped up. On my Bluebird, I remove the rad cap so the air can get out. Raising the front of the car may help, as air...

    Dollywobbler's Maverick

In a moment of weakness, I almost sold my Maverick. However, I think I'm ok now. I did get as far as giving it a good clean. Shiny! As you can see, I own two Nissans (even if one of them wears Ford badges!).

    Rear arb removal

Fez's Maverick leans like my 2CV going around bends! It's quite comical. Not sure it'd affect stability on side slopes though. A body lift probably would though. It's all about centre of gravity. The ARB will just stop one side lifting/dropping too much compared to the other side. Don't forget...

    front end...

That's why you need lots of penetrating oil. I ended up with a spanner on each nut and then another spanner between the spanners to push them apart. They 'cracked' quite merrily with that technique.

    Rear arb removal

Won't affect the MOT I don't think, but you'd better tell your insurer. Advantages are a bit more flex when off-roading, which should stop wheels floating in the air quite so often. The Limited Slip Diff makes this less of an issue than it might be, because it should keep you moving even if one...

    water crossing tips

Make sure your air filter plumbing doesn't have holes in it. ;)

    Door Mirror broken off

Ah, cool. One of my mirrors is a bit wobbly after clearly taking a knock at some point (before my ownership). Maybe that'll help me fix it.

    front end...

Like mine was until recently. Now it's 20mm lower than the rear - that's the key measurement (tyre to wheelarch). I found the locking nuts very hard to move on mine. Ended up using a spanner between the two 19mm spanners to force them apart. Once cracked off, they were fine. Use a lot of...

    new boy....

Winding up the front suspension is dead easy. Did it myself last week. Have a Search in the tech section now you've paid up.

I've snapped off tow bar plugs :(

I ripped the plug off on mine but now keep the electrics inside the boot, as I don't tow very often. Means I have to route the cable through the door seal, which I can't imagine does it a lot of good, but it does mean that damaging the electrics when off-roading is now pretty much impossible!

    Knocking When in 4x4

This. They really don't like tight turns when in 4-wheel drive and it'll judder because the front and rear axles want to rotate at different speeds, but can't.

    new boy....

Howdy and welcome. I do a lot of laning in mine with no mods whatsoever. I'd tackle the lanes first and then see what you need. They're very capable!

Speed Setting on Right Hand Stalk

Yup. It only changes the wipe interval on intermittent.

    Speed cameras

I'm calling 'b*ll*cks' on this one. Entered two reg numbers and got the same 'offence' of doing 73.8mph on the A30. Given that one of the cars I entered was my 2CV, there's no chance!

    russian cars

Nivas are awesome and still available here (in LHD form). I've seen precisely one of the new ones. The Riva (first one pictured) has just gone out of production at long last. I miss the days when you could buy cheap shite like that brand new. These days, cheap cars are just boring. Of course...

Has anyone ever slept in the back of an SWB?

I've slept in cars many times (four up in a 2CV probably ranks as the worst, narrowly beating sleeping across the back seat of a Citroen Dyane in a blizzard). I'm yet to have a comfortable night sleeping in a car. A small tent is a lot easier. I use a self-inflating mat so creating a proper bed...
