    just wont start

Isn't yours like mine? a basic TD without intercooler? In that case there is bugger all electrics in there. Have you checked that the stop valve is wired correctly? i.e. is it stopping when it should be opening? Pop the banjo off the front of the pump and use the primer on the filter to check...

    Veg oil ???

Only thing to add is it's legal as long as you use less than 2500 litres of the stuff in any rolling 12 month period. Need to be doing a fair mileage to burn that though. Best to keep a wee log of how much you pour in each time so you are in the clear should mister HMRC start asking.

    bumper and support for sale

Bugger, wish I'd looked on here yesterday! My mate and I (mostly my mate) spent ages refabricating the front bumper support. Main slam panel part was fine, but the two triangles that the plastic bumper fits to were rotted to nowt. Could have saved hours!

    Smart phone

I use a Sony Xperia mini pro personally and ended up choosing the Sony Xperia pro (bigger brother) for my work phone. A bit cheaper if you can still get one, the best bit for me is that I can use a physical qwerty keyboard to type emails and messages as I don't really like touch screen...

    Mobile phones

Smart phone, dumb user. You are now sounding just like my son, except you are at least earning money and looking at buying it yourself! Eldest wants the latest and greatest as his old Xperia pro is rubbish and won't last another day I'm told - strangely my exact same Xperia pro for work is as...

    Air conditioning

My Mk1 has aircon pipes, etc., and a nice little button the glows blue when I press it, but it doesn't nowt to the quality of the air! Strangely, there is NO pollen filter on my aircon either. I'd quite like to fix it to help with demisting as much as anything else, so I guess a regas is first...

    Bank Holiday Weekend

I wish! 11.5 hours in work yesterday and as I'm in Scotland, no bank holiday today. Added to that I don't get anything more than standard normal hours back for yesterday and the weather has actually been nice, warm and dry for the past couple of days! :( Ah well, hope everyone who's off today...

    End of our holiday

Page four and no-one asked about the ferrets! Surely those wee guys would have had a shock too. Seriously, glad everyone is okay/repairable and that your T2 doesn't sound totalled either. Watch for the insurance company 'taking it off your hands' and insist it stays with you until they decide...

    Clutch/Gearbox again!

The ol' second to first shiffle shuffle - that's what I've been doing too! Stuck in work on the first dry nice day for ages that I could have spent breaking things on my truck. Still to even get so far as lift the cover off the clutch fluid and see if it's low. :doh Have you checked the...

    Horn not working

That was my first thought, but I was dismayed to see that on the Mk1 T2's the horn is hard to get at - not sure, but it looked like I had to get the bumper out of the way as mine is down near the passenger headlight. Gave up at that point as I know when the bumper comes off, I'll have a whole...

    Horn not working

Dodgy connections, fuse or relay maybe? In the same boat myself, taken to winding the window down and slapping the door when trying to get through Edinburgh Festival crowds, bit like farmers getting through a load of sheep! Mostly get away with revving the engine though, it's not exactly a quite...

    filtering/dewatering WVO

In England and Wales you don't need one for personal use, although many places will still ask to see one as they know they also are regulated and have a duty of care to dispose of the oil properly. Sadly in Scotland we are under the watch of SEPA instead of the EA and they don't have the same...

    Turning the pump up

Dunno how it's done, but I have a sneaking suspicion that mine might have been fiddled with in the past, she tends to smoke a bit which suggests overfuelling and for a bare old TD she's quite nippy when I have heavy boots on. Kishada is sure it's as quick as his TDi.

    Failure to wear seatbelt

Wot he said! I also volunteer for an organisation that gives kids something different to do and by and large most kids are great kids, although we also see the degradation of home discipline, but we have various ways to encourage the little 'darlings'. I also agree that Mr Plod will be like any...

    filtering/dewatering WVO

If you're just moving veg oil and not bio, any old central heating pump will manage, but remember they need to be at the lowest point as they aren't self priming. With a bit of careful plumbing, the same pump will do everything, if the shed is too far from the car (as is my case) you need...

    filtering/dewatering WVO

Phew! that was a bit of an epic! I am planning to clean up the system I have to lessen the steps and tidy the shed slightly, basing the system round an upturned hot water cylinder as it has a nice curved bottom (fnarr, fnarr) although for processing a decent quantity, weld a cone to the bottom...
