    Programming key fobs.

I've got two fobs. Both identical at 433.92mhz. If I programme one and then try it out it works OK. I then put that one aside and use the same procedure to programme the second fob; great; all works OK with that one too. BUT ---- When I go back to the fob which I programmed first, it doesn't...

    Mistral Owners....

I once fixed a square number plate to a Suzuki Vitara back door by supergluing four strip magnets onto the back of the ally plate and then plonking said plate onto door. Never came off, even on roughest terrain. Did same for plate lighting but ran cable behind spare wheel to hide it as much as...

    Parking sensors

Reversing sensors Well done -welldone- -welldone- I bought some from my favourite store (ebay) and they also work a treat. Don't know if the "as fitted by makers" ones are the same but mine tend to bleep when on deep grass, gravel, mud etc but thats not a problem .

    Torsion Bars

Sweety; Did my torsion bars last week and because my electronic service CD had gone walkabout I did it by guessology. As luck would have it I had got it right because when the CD resurfaced I checked the dims as per book and they are OK. You are also in luck because I have just popped out to...

    diesel

I don't use fuel additives but in all other respects I agree with Chaz. However, it has come to something when we are almost constantly having to watch the speedo because there is a direct correlation between your MPH and the width of the smile on MR Darling's face. I suspect Chaz wouldn't have...

    Drive belts.

Had a look at alternator and PAS drive belts yesterday---tension has not changed over many weeks but alt belt looked low in pulley so decided to change both. Was I glad I had bothered. The alternator belt LOOKED ok from a "perfunctary butchers" but it was a much different tale when removed and...

    engine oil

Halfords 10 x 40 semi synthetic and I add STP because engine seems to like it. Goes OK in my motor. I am lead to believe that most oils come from the same great big tank anyway. True---False---- :?: :?: :?: Am interested in why you ask.

    Make the plastic black

black plastic When I had vehicles with lots of black plastic I used to use "Back to Black" which comes in handy aerosols from the usual DIY stores, Halfords and the like. Did a good job but needed refreshing now and again of course.

    3rd row seats in lwb

I fitted headrests to seats 6 & 7 to make for better safety for Grandchildren who reckon that riding in "the boot" is the bees knees. Got the headrests out of a scrap Rover 400. They are gray velour, my car is gray leather but they look good because luckily the shade of gray matches. The rests...

    cruise control.

Hello Tinny. I don't know whether they are still obtainable but my T2 has a cruise control system ; it is an EQUUS Model 9000-B. I'm think that type would fit your Mav. The previous owner had it fitted and when I bought the car it was still operational but I have "killed" it ; only because I...

    Torsion bars.

Thanks guys. I had misplaced my CD so the info was helpful. Better half has since found CD amongst family photos CDs :| I have now taken it into custody! By luck I had got the adjustment right to within a gnats whisker :o You just gotta win sometimes.

    Torsion bars.

I've gone up in the world a bit. About 30mm actually. Adjusted the front suspension torsion bars. Still a bit to go to be exactly same as rear wheel to arch clearance. Might tweak it a bit more---thinking about that :?: : Should these clearances be the same ?---any advice welcome. The stance...

    Flat battery

Dave the Duck says that he can remove his ignition key in any position including when the engine is running. Is this not dangerous? Couldn't the key be removed "in flight" leaving the steering lock liable to operate whilst driving? I seem to remember that (many years ago) there was a similar...

    Steering problem

Hi Danny. Clonking on full lock is most likely because of lack of grease on steering stops. These are situated one on each side and they will be pretty obvious to you if you look underneath from the front. They need a good dollop of grease on each surface. Rear differential is a limited slip...

    Patrol hesitation

Hi Andrew. Sounds like you have a great motor which just needs a bit of the right sort of diagnosing that these dealers always say they are so good at. "Any problems Sir---just bring it in---we'll soon sort it out for you" It seems from the tone of your post that the dealer might be a little...

    Engine oil flush

I have never liked the thought of scouring out ALL the old oil from an engine by flushing. Don't really know why, just a gut feeling :| Did an oil and filter change yesterday, added £5 worth of STP oil ADDITIVE (the slippery stuff) just for luck. The old girl now sounds about 50K younger

    Engine oil filter "welded in?"

Update on welded filter. At last, got round to trying to shift filter again. Hot engine and a pair of new filter pliers off ebay and it moved with no probs. Not much room to extract the filter or to wriggle the new one in but it's done now and the new oil is making the motor sound 50K miles...

    Air con

Assume your compressor is turning OK ? Mine was but--------- Had same problem two years ago----very little fridge gas pressure. Tried one of Halfords DIY bottles-----no good in my case because my system had a pin hole in an ally pipe which runs over top of radiator. It had chaffed on a sharp...
