Torsion Bars

I had a go at adjusting the torsion bars on my T2 as the front end was looking a bit low :roll: The measurement from the bottom of the arch to the centre of the hub is 18.5" & was wondering if someone could tell me what their measurment is so I can compare it as i'm to sure if mine is right :?
Next queation :roll: I'm thinking of fitting LWB springs in the summer to gain a 1.5" lift :smile: but I don't think my adjusters will have enough adjust ment left in them to level the truck out Is there anyway of gaining more adjustment whithout removing the bars :?: If the bars do have to be removed which direction will they have to be turn & by how many splines & is it both end which will need turning.
Sorry for all the queastions it's just i've never had to deal with torsion bars before & am really unsure about working on them

Did my torsion bars last week and because my electronic service CD had gone walkabout I did it by guessology. As luck would have it I had got it right because when the CD resurfaced I checked the dims as per book and they are OK. You are also in luck because I have just popped out to check my lower arch to wheel centres and guess what----it is 18.5inches spot on. Are we clever or what :?: :?: :smile:
For the next part of your query I think the above mentioned manual has some pretty good diagrams which show l/h and r/h bars and the configuration. Looks like its possible to wind the bars further but it don't look easy. Have you considered some tubular distance pieces/washers over the adjustment screws to space things off and steal a bit more lift; or am I being crude? :wink: :roll:

Thanks Chaster as you have put my mind to rest on the height
as for lifting it further I have noticed ther is only about 1/2" before the adjuster make contact with the crossmember :?

I should just give it a go - I had the same fears and mine was fine, despite it being 40mm too low to start with.

Well went & got my tracking checked today after resetting the torsion bars & I am so glad I did as it was well out :roll: Well after it was done I started to head home then noticed the steering wheel was well out as the chimp that had done it had only adjusted the tracking on one side 8O :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: so I turned around & went back & had to wait 40mins before they took my T2 back in. Anyway the guy who did it the second time must have had 1/2 a brain & reset the tracking to match the steering wheel & made the adjustments on both sides :smile: He thought that my front tyres looked a bit flat so pumped them upto 31psi 8O :roll: & won't have it that they were at the right preasure at 26psi :evil:

It was Tyrespot :roll: they have always been good & very good on the price of tyres around here, but you maybe right about the new staff

must be a young tyre fitter thing that they all put 30 ish psi in fronts,every 4x4 ive owned has always had lower tyre pressure in the front,but they always insist no mate thats the right pressure,do you think they know something the car manufactures dont :lol:
