Standard Boost for 2.7 TDi ?

Hello again Tim. Am interested to know what sort of performance improvement you got after winding up the waste-gate from 10 to 12psi at intake. I am thinking of upping mine a tad but am a bit short of courage :(   keep thinking about extra burden on gaskets :? Suppose...

Standard Boost for 2.7 TDi ?

Hi. My t2 runs at an average max of 10psi ,(give or take the odd lb) and I have been advised that it is about the best; any more MIGHT lead to head gasket problems. A higher boost may need a chip to increase fuel input otherwise there will be no benefit from extra boost. 8) Don't know about...

    Air intake duct

On the air intake duct, just under the part where it leaves the inner wing and turns towards the air filter housing there is a cylindrical appendage under the duct . It is a part of the duct and is about 12cm long, 4cm diameter. It has no apparent outlet and I just wonder what purpose it...

    Hi Hi

Hi, welcome to the fold. I have already saved a tidy sum by using downloads etc. Trust you'll do the same. I'm a Yorkshireman by birth, my wife says we're worse than ye Scots, cheeky !!! :o :o :o

    ebay/paypal problems

Paypal Could well be. It's all electronically controlled of course so there's no way discretion can be used. It's just a machine doing its job. A bit clinical I suppose. If you still need the tyres it might work if you order two at a time. Surely the seller would combine postage into one...

    ebay/paypal problems

Paypal Have had similar (although not identical ) experiences. It can be frustrating , especially when you are in a hurry. They seem to be slow to correct faults whether it is theirs or yours but in my experience they have ALWAYS done the right thing in the end and I have never lost...

    heater plug light

My glow plug light only stays on for 3 secs every time. :o I tried the circuit out with a voltmeter and there is a supply to the plugs for about 11 secs after light has gone out. So, I turn key to on and leave it there for about 12 secs or so after light has gone out then start up and she...

    T2 stuck middle seat

Hi alchams. The seat base is secured by a spring loaded jaw type clamp under the centre rear of the base squab. The release is by cable from the side lever. Each end of this cable can be accessed by removing the plastic panels near the handle and the clamping jaw. If the seat is currently stuck...

lumpy running following death of a battery!

Hi again Damien. Glad to hear things are improving  Would have thought that any contact between turbo fan and its housing would make enough noise to let you know about it and if the play were bad enough it would catch on the housing when rotated by hand. Did you check this up and down...

lumpy running following death of a battery!

Hi Damien. My wife tends to be tempremental when she is neglected for 5 days too  Seriously: :| Firstly, I can't claim to be a "knowledgable one" but over the years I have learned to slow down and let things settle down a bit before digging too deep. Your loose injectors must obviously...

front vibration at 60 mph and above

Hi again Jim. What a senseless answer that was from Bridgestone, bet you were impressed  Hope you got a refund.

Hi Jim. What was the conclusion after Bridgestones' testing :?:

    air con

Rotten luck :( Do you know if Kwik-Fit put any tracer dye in with the gas. :?: Should be able to find the leak if they did. Probably green or yellow. Shows up fairly well in daylight but I was told that some dyes need a U/V light to see them properly.

    air con

Hi. I had similar problem 2 years ago. Turned out to be pinhole in ally pipe which runs along top of radiator. It had chaffed through on a sharp edge at corner of rad. Only spotted it because firm who did recharge included yellow dye. Only a tiny hole but at the pressures in the system it soon...

    Ratcheting noise

Thanks J-T. Tried again---made sure air-con off, ABS is far away from source of noise. Tried it with a "screwdriver" stethescope. Noise is clearest when touching fuel / injector pump unit. My bus doesn't tie up exactly with any of the models shown in the Electronic Service Manuals so I...

    Ratcheting noise

Thanks for post sweety. The noise I get goes on for as long as the ignition switch is on. My description of it being like a bike freewheel is not too accurate. After washing ears out better  it is more of an unsteady fizzing sort of noise.

    Ratcheting noise

Have owned my waggon for about two years. Keep meaning to ask--------there is a sort of ratcheting noise from around the fuel/injector pump area when the ignition is switched on. It has always done it. Sounds a bit like a fairly quiet bicycle freewheel. Don't know if it continues when engine is...

    Intercooler

Hi bibio. It's no consolation to you I know, but the diesel price is strangling us all :( Wonder if a general election would make any difference  Do you do a lot of urban driving ? Did you ask the other Mistral driver what sort of driving he does ? Could be a big factor in accounting...

    Intercooler fan

Hello hummingbird. Thanks for your thoughts about water sprays etc. I had pondered long and hard about that line of attack but decided that the fan was simpler and the engine gets enough rainwater anyway. I'm a puzzled as to why you say the cooling effect isn't needed at low speeds. :? My...

    Intercooler fan

Fitted a 10" elect fan to intercooler. It sits in quite nicely. Just needed to block off some small gaps at corners with ally plate. 12 volt power tee'd into caravan relay under bonnet and fused down to 10 amps. Extra control switch fitted on dashboard to knock it off in winter or when engine...
