Have owned my waggon for about two years. Keep meaning to ask--------there is a sort of ratcheting noise from around the fuel/injector pump area when the ignition is switched on. It has always done it. Sounds a bit like a fairly quiet bicycle freewheel. Don't know if it continues when engine is running as it is drowned out by engine noise. :? No known problems; bus runs OK; just wonder where this noise comes from and if it is normal. Any insights would be appreciated.

I get a buzz sound from the same area when I turn the key, i'm sure it's the fuel pump soilinoid or the fuel pump kicking into action but it don't last long

Thanks for post sweety. The noise I get goes on for as long as the ignition switch is on. My description of it being like a bike freewheel is not too accurate. After washing ears out better  it is more of an unsteady fizzing sort of noise.

Is your Air Con switched on? my AC used to hiss and fizz until it was regassed but only made the noise when turned on.

What about the ABS? if there is a fault it may be trying to operate all the time. Can't remember whether the unit is on N/S or O/S.

Thanks J-T. Tried again---made sure air-con off, ABS is far away from source of noise. Tried it with a "screwdriver" stethescope. Noise is clearest when touching fuel / injector pump unit.
My bus doesn't tie up exactly with any of the models shown in the Electronic Service Manuals so I can't tell if the fuel pump is electrical or mechanical. Wonder if it could be electrical integrated within the injection pump unit or is there no such animal :?:
Perhaps I should forget I ever heard the noise---but I'm still curious.
