Yes, width ways. Haven't had to use them yet, with those tractor tyres on its a bit hard to get stuck!

Put it this way, they are in the back of the car now - rear passenger footwell - and there is about 5" to spare with them pushed up against the far door. Hope this helps.

Very smart! I'm just going to bungee an army bivvi to the roof rack. I havent noticed the rusty hubs, mainly because they are covered in mud!! I'll have to do some measuring, but I am thinking about using a pair of these in the back for storage...
