It could be down to clutch drag, check the pedal box is tight, the top bolt has a tendency to come loose and the bracket bends (eventually cracking) when the clutch is pushed down loosing some of the pedal travel to the master cylinder.

What you have said is perfectly normal and is what should happen, with only one wheel of the ground you will need more force than just your hands to turn it.

I think you will find the sump is shallower on the 2.5 so you will need to change it over along with the oil pick up pipe to get the 2.7 engine to fit in. Not sure on the bell housing fitting, but the lower section at the sump is only a tin plate.

I presume the 2.7 engine has no pump with it? The VE pump should fit ok and easily adjusted, what injectors do you plan to use? Is the 2.7 a TD or TDI engine?

What make / type is the 2.5 pump?

All you need is SAE 80W/90, API GL5 Gear oil (2.4ltrs) auto data says it should be 5.4ltrs, but I think this is incorrect.
