Hi All

deisel changes in this country depending on the season (so im told). If i were to add a small bit of winter deisel to the tank in the summer time, would this result in less smoke and acleaner burn???? Or would it wreck the engine???

Only a thought - dont knwo if it is feasible or not.

any thoughts???

TBH I dont know anything about winter or summer diesel differences.

Is it a throw back to it thickening up in the cold (like vege oil does) ??????

I am no expert but i have been told that the deisel at the pump is automatically changed according to the season. This is to prevent it waxing, though i stand to be corrected. I think that it is not talked about because it is done automatically - most folk are not aware it is even done.

ok but why would you want to use winter in the summer
or have you some left over from winter

i read somewhere not sure how right it is ... in sub zero temps they do a 50 50 mix of diesel and kerosine

I was thinking that if it burns cleaner then i could put a small amount in the tank in summer to help clean burning and reduce exhaust smoke. Not sure if it would work but if i would be willing to try out the theory if it was not harmful for the car. It would not cost anything rather than paying £6 for the fuel additives.

kerosine 50 percent will clean it, if its a td it will fly too. if its a tdi will just run really smooth and quiet... just dont get caught

oh and its 35p a litre

knowing my luck id get stopped as i dropped off the drive!!

central heating, boiler oil .... kerosine
its the purer form of diesel as i understand it

also read diesel planes run on it

ah so. no you're right, jet engines run on kerosene. mmm...must try a squirt in the T2 then!

When I was in the RAF , whilst the bowzers were filling the bombers we would drain off 5 gallon for our billet heating stove, just smelt like my granddads paraffin... bri

Glad some said that:D Kero is aviation fuel.

The Refinary i used to work in we produced napth, Kero, diesel and fuel oil, the black crap you see on the beaches after a spill. This was from N Sea crude.

:)

Jocky from what I've read on the net, it seems that Kero has a lower burn temperature (does that equal lower calorific value?) so wouldn't produce quite as much energy as straight diesel??

I dont know the answer to this but as well as burn temp you need to get a figure for burn rate. A lower temp but may burn for longer for a given amount.

Getting back on thread. I posted the original question on a different forum. The answer that came back was that winter deisel has an additive in it to prevent waxing. It is not a different fraction (that i thought it was) so removing it in summer is just a cost cutting exercise and burning winter deisel in summer will not result in a cleaner burn as i thought.

Ah well better go out and check how much oil i have in my heating boiler lol.
