I found that the console switches develop poor contacts they come apart quite easy, but lots of fiddly little bits, and very complicated wiring so write it all down before you start, any way did mine, just cleaned the contacts, and now have all windows working, Rick

How do you get them out of the centre console? any tips?

lift the lid and remove the two screws, in front of the HB lever is a removable plastic cover, remove the screws here, lift the console gently till you can see the two plug blocks, disconnect these and lift the console away each bank of switches is held with a screw at each end, but they are fiddly to strip, Rick

Got all the switches apart and cleaned them even the ones in the rear doors, still nothing! Any other suggestions? Where are the motors, in the door pillars?

The power windows are protected by a common "circuit breaker", so if any of the windows work then this is not likely to be the problem. Full power window diagram can be found in EL-133.

Lacroupade,
fuse #16 (10A) is for the Interior light, along with a host of other bits, chime, NATS, Clock etc....

Where are the motors for the rear doors for the Maverick located? I have tried the doors pillars between the fornt and rear doors but no luck. I am really confused now!

the widow motors are located in the door, just remove the door card, but if it is only the rear windows that are not working it will not be a fuse or relay all the windows work from the same power supply the console switches would be the first place to look but you have done that but did you check carefully the rear window disable switch, this would be the most likely cause, unless you have both rear motors gone, Rick

I took the rear door cards off and couldn't see the motors in there, I have stripped and cleaned all the switches and the disable switch appears to be working as it disables the passenger side front window. There is power getting to the switch connectors in the rear doors but it was getting late and I need the car tomorrow so had to put it all back together.
Guess I will have to whip themoff again tomorrow and see if I can see the motors. Is there an easy way to test the motors if and when I find them?

Stripped the motors down today, got rear passenger side working but drivers side rear is beyond repair. Does anyone have a rear offside mechanism lying around they may be willing to sell me? At least i have 3 workin windows now..... just 1 to go!

Top man - thanks Ray! :thumb2

OK, little update after some fettling yesterday.

BOTH rear windows in wifes truck refuse to work.

So, checked the single fuse for power windows under bonnet on l/h side. All fine.

Then, because I'm looking to reinstall the Tunit from my MkIV before she goes (and the ECU connectors look to be even more hidden on the MkIII than the MkIV!!:doh), I took out the entire centre console to get at the switches. Wiring all looks fine and I did manage to detect that when you operate the rear window switches, in both cases, there is an almost inaudible click in the door panel. Whipped the door card off (always an adventure so I'll do a quick giude!) and couldn't see anything amiss.

The click tells me one of two things....either not enough current getting through, or the motors are bolloxed...but seems a bit coincidental that both rears should go at once......

So next step is to get back up to Oxford where I have a pair of rear doors from which I can pinch the motors to try a swap next week.

I'll report back after that. :augie:thumb2

um i take it you looked at the "master switch" by the hand brake??

I gave it the once over but it was pointless because when its in the ON position it disables everything except the drivers window and the passenger window works fine, so I'd already diagnosed it out of the picture.....:(

NO such thing as a bad idea.

The man who never did anything wrong, probably never did anything.:augie

Electric windows (they're a pane).

From my limited experience (two Terranos over 6 yrs) I think that the window motors are only just powerful enough to cope providing the sliders are kept well lubricated with slippery silicon.
Whenever I have had window or sunroof malfunctions I have always been able to cure them by the following crude process-----
Liberaly squirting silicon fluid down the runners,
Start the engine with a few extra revs to get electrical system volts at optimum
Use a device ( sink plunger etc) to vacuum onto glass
Use the above device to assist the poor little motor to get things moving

Seems that lack of use is the culprit 'cos after a good old workout all windows "free up " and work well

Does it for me anyway :)

worth a punt I'd say.

I've just stripped out one of the rear door motors from the spare doors in my garage so will stick it on the battery to check for operation and see what swapping it out does....
